Default Photoshop CS3 Guru's

My photoshop is being a pain and I can't get my head round it.

Firstly, bridge will not offer any previews of files, they only show up as the file name.
Secondly, Photoshop itself wont open the NEF raw files my D300s takes.

Ive updated the the latest/last camera raw update adobe did and still no luck ?!?

any idea's?

cheers.

I think the Nikon NEF viewer adds a plug-in to Photoshop? Have you installed that?

Also, is it the PSD files that don't preview? Mine never has, didn't think it was abnormal.

I just found this......

Download Adobe Camera Raw Plug-In 4.1.1

Here are the directions I followed to install the Adobe Camera Raw Plug-In 4.1.1:

To install with Adobe Creative Suite 3 or Photoshop CS3:
1. Exit Photoshop CS3.
2. Open My Computer.
3. Double-click Local Disk C:
4. Navigate to: c:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS3\File Formats
5. Move the existing Camera Raw.8bi plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back.
6. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw.8bi, from the download into the same folder as in step 4.
7. Launch Photoshop CS3 or Adobe Bridge.

Note: If generic camera thumbnails appear in Adobe Bridge, follow these steps:

1. Check to make sure the plug-in was installed in the correct directory in step 4 above.
2. Start Bridge.
3. Choose Tools > Cache > Purge Central Cache

Yeah I have tried that one. Its still just coming up with the same error command saying that its the wrong type of document.

i have no idea why it is doing this. My old d50 works fine. Ive even tried two different SDHC cards to check if thats making a difference to the NEF's but no luck.

Found the problem. CS3 isn't compatible with the NEF's taken on a D300S. Only works in cs4.
Gonna have to just run the DNG converter with every raw I shoot. Which is what I was trying to avoid.
