Aftering receiving a number of replies to my problem of exhaust sounding like a afterburner at 3000revs and no boost it looks like the actuator needs replacing. Im not sure wot is involved in this process so can anyone tell me if this is a DIY job or wether its a job for the expects?? How is this job done?? I have little knowleadge about these engines, so any help would be appericated
What car is it on an RSt or a cossie? either way its a very easy job... especially on the cossie as its much easier to get to!
All you will need (IIRC
) is a 12mm socket and an 11mm spanner along with a pair of pliers.
it will take you about 2 mins to get the old actuator off and the same to fit the new one... assuming you arent running MASSIVE boost and that you dont have to pull the actuator arm to to get it over the wastegate!

I think i'm having the same problem, as soon as i hit full boost my k&n suddenly sounds like its doing 10 thousand revs but i lose acceleration, if i keep foot down it comes back after about 10 seconds and takes off again, how much is a new actuator for a s2 rst? and do I need a certain one, im using about 10-12 psi

after taking ppls advice ive bought myself a 31_actuator off ebay today for "buy it now" price of Ł10 + Ł3 P+P, blue, with the rod, contacted him and he assures me its works perfectly fine. There were quiet a few on ebay for around that price. This one was suitable for the S1 n S2

well bought the actuator today through ebay so hopefully shud receive it back end of nxt week. Yeah the car has a boost guage and ive been told its chipped. How will i know what boost level to set it at?? should be fun doing this tho as ive just had my arm pinned after a motorcycle accident, so i only have one good arm and im not able to drive the thing to a garage (who im sure will charge me a fair bit to fit the thing)
You need both arms really mate, it's good you have a boost guage, it may take a good 3 or 4 times to get it set right, if you wind the actuator rod inwards it ups the boost, the more you wind the rod out it makes less boost. You will need to start it weak, take the car round the block see what it boosts like, you can then come back (wait for a long time or you will burn urself to fook on the turbo
) and adjust the rod again. Don't wind it right in and run silly boost
Oh, and i'd suggest a good setup to check the fueling and get it rolling roaded to make sure all is ok by a top tuner
