Default Saph Heater problem

Hi I own a 90H saph cos 4x4.I've just took her out of the garage after being tucked away since November and now the blower aint giving out any hot air??????

I know it aint the h/gasket cos I dont have any of the tell tale signs and it was also recently replaced with a cometic multi-layer not that long ago.

I noticed 2red spade wires hanging from the back of the dash(pass footwell) that Ive never noticed before.....Any ideas??

Its blowing ok but just no hot air?? Temp is fine also.

Thermostat????

Thanks.

I had exactly the same problem a couple of years ago, and it turned out to be the heater matrix behind the dash. Just to warn you that it's a right pain in the arse job to do too. You can pick them up cheap enough from a scrappys.

not thermostat. either heater matrix is broken or heaterfluid doesn`t run thru heater matrix properly.

Not sure if you can do that in a sapph, but I flushed the heater matrix in my golf runabout my running a garden hose into one of the pipes going through the bulkhead and collecting the water @ the other end through another piece of garden hose.
I really improved things on the heating side - might be worth a try.

Course you can change the heater matrix on a sapph, you have to remove the lower half of the dash, disconnect the clutch pedal (otherwise the matrix wont slide out) and then tug like hell from the drivers foot well, whilst applying the brake pedal enough to slide the matrix all the way out. Like I said above, it's a pain in the arse job to do, and will give you a bad back for weeks, but once it's done, you won't have to worry about it for another 10years, unlike if you try to blow the crap out with a garden hose!!!!!!

I meant flushing , not replacing the matrix

Where I can save effort and money without compromising reliability or safety, I try the easy option first, if that don't work, then get my hands dirty... I would still try to clean the matrix out... who knows, that could be good enough for another ten years too

Sorry mate, I must've misread your reply. It's just that blowing the matrix through on mine ended up leaving my interior with shit in it, and all over the engine bay, and I'd hate for that to happen to someone else, cos it gutted the hell out of me. Was only trying to help the bloke. replacement matrices are cheap anyway.

I apologise if you were upset.

I wasn't upset m8, lifes too short

If you ended up with crap all over your interior and engine bay, you're quite right to mention it, turns an "easy" job into a nightmare

good advice frog.

back flush it though, i.e. flow water in opposite direction to normal.

if tricky, connect a length of hose and pour in some mr muscle drain cleaner or similar. connect another length of hose to flow all the shit out of the bottom of the car, or out over the wing cos you don't want that shit all over your enginebay.

rinse out well by flushing both ways afterwards.

i've heard people flusghing them out with a jet wash type thing
but as you say, if it's on the verge of blowing, you might just get crap everywhere

endure the pain and swap it over, or flush it through every once in a while

I dont think the heater matrix costs alot from Fords anyway

I say, try & blow it out first, then, if that dont work change it, but it is a real bastid of a job
