Default pressure in water bottle ?

i have just put new water pump headgasket timing belt etc on my car
it now runs and fine when idleing but when accelerating
there is a lot of pressure coming out of the bottle
under heavy acceleration it blew of the radiator hose that i hadnt tightened properly .

i had to bypass the heater matrix yesterday due to it bursting
could this be the main cause ?

its a 1998 escort gti ?
any ideas before i smash it up with a hammer lol
cheers kev

There usually is a pressure build up in the cooling system as the water is heated, it wants to turn to steam, but because is a closed system and wont let any of it out you get a pressure build up.

I would say if a hose popped off because you didn't tighten it up properly its quite normal.

Still sounds rather fucked. With it warm and running, open the cap and see if bubbles are coming up through.

Sounds to me like head is warped. Did you have it skimmed before refitting?

cracked block maybe, pressure has to come from somewhere a sniff test will tell you whats going. thermostat is clutching at straws as it would still run ok regardless. bursting a heater matrix and blowing off hoses is a major problem a leak down test would be an idea along with a compression test for a more definate answer. a quick look at the spark plugs should show if it's burning water one will be cleaner to show the problem on that cylinder

Where you get a big pipette thing to 'sniff' up some gases out of the header tank, if there's exhaust gases in there then a chemical inside the pipette will turn a different colour to indacate head gasket failiure!
