Default ford (couldnt think of anything else)

i have a escort 1.6 si on the r plate it wont start.
it was leaking water befor the big freezz. i tried to start it (poss mistake) there is fuuel coming through and a spark but it just turns over. is it possible the timing has shifted? both belts are ok.

Only timing that can shift is the cam timing, but unless belts loose/stripped teeth, etc will be ok, have you had it running ok before it started leaking water.
Bit more detail needed.

yes was running ok it turns over without firing up iv checked for fuel and a spark doesnt make any nasty noise.

I'd do a compression test next, looks like something may have shifted, also have a look for stripped teeth.
