is it in first gear is a question you ask yourself. you think about the lights changing and where your gonna place your car after you pull away.....as the light change you think about the cars around you and if your catching them or they are catching you. as your getting in the car i just run through things i need to do harness, fire ext pin and where i am on the grid

Plus your heart is pounding and maybe your knees are wobbling abit, especially your left oneas its holding down the clutch. Palms maybe a bit sweaty too.

Mostly I think oh shit, what am I doing and why did I sign up for this, it'll be a nightmare and I'm bound to crash. Then by the end of the first corner I'm fine.
It takes about 7 minutes from lining up in the assembly area to get onto the grid, then a green flag lap, then the start.

There's been many a race where I've been on the grid thinking, what's that smell? what's that smoke? whats that strange noise? Did I remember to do those wheel nuts up? etc etc.

I used to shit myself (not literally ofcourse) when I raced karts, worring about what could go wrong, what'd happen if i crashed, etc. but as soon as the race starts, thats it, adrenalines pumping, and you forget it. I used to sit on the dummy grid, just staring infront of me trying to focus, blocking everything out. Honestly, 30 tkm's into the first corner is terrifying when you think about it, but when you're actually doing it, you don't care, and just wanna get past everyone!
