Default Manifold

Hi guys,

having more troubles with the car now. Having changed the headgasket etc have now found the turbo manifold is glowing red hot after an hours cruising at 70. will the fact that i've heat wrapped the manifold turbo elbow and down pipe cause this or is there a more serious problem?

Temps in general ok? does just sound like accumulated heat on a nice run if everything is heat wrapped. How does it pull through the gears?

turbo got all the appropriate water pipes connected? fueling all okay..... running dangerously lean can do this, as can valve timing etc.

the turbo is a series one with no water cooling. the car pulls fine through the gears the temps in general are on the low side usually runs on the m of the norm but now is well below.

The timing was set as per haynes and the 2 timing marks. Could the advance ge done by the dizzy?

excess egt are caused buy the fueling being to rich as the unburnt fuel exits the engine rather than burning in the cilinder or there is not enouth ignition advance. is it on mfi??? if so try changing the sensor in the cross over pipe for a known working one

No mate, running lean causes high egt's, running rich can actually cool exhaust valves etc.

its running lean that causes high egt's, as said fuel actually cools it

Yeah running lean or timing too retarded.
Are you running standard boost?

if it runs with too little advance or too rich, then it can cause fuel to burn in the turbo, sort of like how antilag works and cause the turbo to run too hot and cooling engine a little.
on the other hand if it's too lean and too much advance it'll send a hotter mix into the turbo in the first place so another problem.
get it over to a tuner and see what they are saying about fuel mixture and timing.
