Default Anyone claimed on a motor traders policy...

My wife had a accident this morning due to black ice, slid across the road and twatted the crash barrier ! Minced the front bumper and all the front plactics, same with the back bumper

It has also pushed the front of the car over a bit as the drivers wing is almost touching the front door edge, quite a gap on the pass side as well !

What i was needing to know was if anyone had claimed on their motor traders policy for a car and did they get a decent pay out !

Am sure i can remember reading somewhere in the policy documents for mine that they will only pay out the trade value of anything being claimed for.

My car is a 52 plate Mondeo Ghia X TDCi done 110k miles, what would something like that be worth and what could i expect to get paid out for it if i did go ahead and claim through my insurance for it ???

Not sure yet if i should go ahead and repair it myself (its a fantastic runnung car with zero faults! ) or claim for it and hope to get a decent pay out and find something else equally as good as this one was !

Opinions welcomed peeps.

i would have thought they would want to know for what trade purpose it was being driven for and if they do pay out will only be trade value.

na you can have trade policys with sdp mine covers it, non fault accidents most of the time you can go all the way but seing as your claiming off your own it will be trade oh and dont forget a few hundred excess

id say go buy one from ebay for 400 quid you will get one with blown engine etc, panel it up paint it, the legs will need a little pull to the opposite side, easy enough if your spanner minded

plus you will get 100 for the scrap of the car plus whatever you can sell off it

Thats mainly what am thinking !

Been having a quick look at prices of similar cars and seem to vary a lot, anywhere from 1300 quid right up to close to 3k !!!

I underwrite and sell motor trade insurance for one of the largest uk insurers.

They will assume being in the trade you will have access to trade price cars hence why the offer will be made on that basis,If however you can prove you paid market price for the car or your business is not buying/selling cars (ie bodyshop/servicing) they may increase offer if you ask them.

I assume you have SDP use for your wife to drive?

how much is your xs? How many years ncd do you have? Most insurers give up to 45% on 4 years or over and normally steps back to 20% ish on 1st claim which will increase your renewal

For the value id advise against a claim

excess is usually high and the car has to be named on the policy (on mine at least), never claimed on traders its only there as a cover note imo
