Be carefull regards ventilation for tv components if you a re recessing it fella
I have 4" side and bottom and 6" above and akso it is vented with a fan switched via a stat that makes on temp rise
It is a plasma tho and as such run hot
Had to research its recommended running temp for the stat
As said don't fit too high-looks daft and hurts ya neck!!

My tv was mounted about 6" above eye level and that made my eyes ache, so sod having it that high! Ideally you don't want the centre of the screen more than 1 metre off the ground....

the mounting is not to high ,been sitting on a seat and adjusting it to suit ,ive got approx 3inches on the sides and 6 inches top and bottom and im going to fit vents above the tv so it will vent into a cavity so heat from the tv shouldent be a problem ,my concern was the heat on the screen the fire wont be used that often as its central heated, the fires more for show

Each to their own and all that but I just don't get it...I could understand someone removing the fire place and then mounting it lower down in it's place.
My eye line is smack in the middle of my 46" TV when sat on the sofa - would be pony any higher or lower....IMO...

The missus wants our dossing room redoing. She wants to mount the new flat screen on the wall above the new fire. I hung a pic where the centre of the tv would sit and it felt uncomfortable. It just seem strange when sitting down to look up at the pic, then look back down at the people in the room. Manufacturers never supplied a 2 metre stand with their tvs did they
Mines mounted about the fireplace but angled down toward the sofa
If you're gonna recess it make sure you're 100% happy with the viewing angle from everywhere you'll ever sit in the room because you'll end up pissed off with it otherwise
