Default Possiple to Buy a decent Escort RS for £1500?

Is it Possible to buy a decent S2 Escort rs turbo for about £1500? which is under 100,000 miles? because I am just seeing if its viable to buy one of these motors because the chance of me being stuck with a roughed up lemon of a car is very likely specialy due to the fact they getting as old as me!

honestly, a decent one no.
specially if you have to ask the question in the first place- if you know the cars well you might get lucky.

it depends what you class as a decent one, if you want something mint with good power and a good spec then no, but if you want a half decent tidy useable one then yes, admittedly there are some right shitters around. theres a red 1 near me, D reg 88 spec, admittedly its not mint, bonnet has got a few dents, and theres a scab around the side repeater on the passenger front wing, but the roof is mint, rear arch's have been done at some point, good 90 spec interior, koni's, standard wheels in black, very good underneath, chipped ecu and a few chrome bits, £1300. there are better ones out there if you want to spend 2, 3, even 4 times as much, but this is still a good respectable one that can be used rather than sat in a garage and used for 3000 miles a year like a lot of them are.

only if you want a project car, spend £2500 and you will get a decent motor.

He has sold that one mate, I could have had it for £1200 remember. Really was a half decent one at a real good price! The thing that kept the price down was the fact it was a D reg but makes no difference in my book as it was a good solid car.

For £1500 it is possible to find an ok RS but you really need to know these cars to sniff out a decent one IMO

Don't think you'll get a 'decent' one for 1500, does depend alot on what you consider decent as i've seen plenty of people with ones that they've told me are mint, that to me are complete dogs!! Best way would be to find some advertised for that money and go have a look over them and see what you think, proper minefield at hat sort of money though imo

have a look at a few, dont go for the first or second one you see.

My mate paid £1700 for his, it wasn't mint but it had a folder full of history and reciepts, was straight on the HPI check and drove well enough. he bought it and had it setup and apart from a few gearboxes from his driving style, its been a really good one

the only thing you can do with an old ford is buy with your head, not your heart.

hmm so it seams it is possiple but like alot of you have said it would be a minefield and I would have to be really lucky. It seams stupid for me to even start looking because I dont really know much about cars and where to look to see if its a shitter or not. Really wanted a escort rs turbo

If you really want an rs turbo, simple, save up a bit more and then get yourself a good one!! But if you don't know much about cars be prepared for regular garage bills once you've got it lol!

I would think it depends on how well you know the cars and if you could do the work yourself. There was a lad on here not so long ago who got a s2 with efi conversion for £ so its not impossible.

Depends if they know what they've got If they do, no chance, anything under £2K is going to need work and deep pockets IMHO.

However, you do find good cars about, with a desperate, or nieve owners like mine. Anyone who has seen my car close up has said its one of the best condition cars they have seen. It's got 48k ish on the clock and I paid £1500 for it with a genuine 200BHP engine. It just needed a bit of putting back together. Things like manifold and turbo putting back on, 5th injector conecting back up etc.

Just keep a look out, and buy on body condition, NOT whats under the bonnet.

Bought one for 700. Cat C though and needs putting back together but had the accident damage sorted. I knew the car before and it was a minter. After spending a few quid I should have a nice looking daily s2 for not much more than 1k. No re-sale value though!

No disrespect fella but IMHO I think you'll be lucky to ge over £500 for that, and with a T4 on there and not having been setup it will be detonating like mad at 12psi so the engine is a ticking time bomb mate
I'd spend £100 on a setup and sell it with a nice printout, at least then buyers will have peace of mind that the engine is not going to blow and know that it's making good power.... if a bit laggy

Imo you would have to be very lucky to find a "decent" one for that kind of money and it would probably involve traveling from one end of the country to the other. you could probably get one with tidy (ish) bodywork but smokey engine and tired mechanicals for that amount. Just depends if you want to buy a car and have to spend money on it straight away. Personally I would look to pay £2500-£3000 for a nice one that wont need money spent on it straight away.

I sold a red 1991 H plate about 6 months ago with a blown engine but ok bodywork mot,tax etc for £800. To put things in perspective.

That said there are bargains to be had, just depends how long you are willing to wait and how far you are prepaired to travel...

If you don't mind having a LHD car I'd suggest you go on searching in mainland europe. RS Fords aren't as popular here so can be picked up cheap. If you get one from Italy or Spain it might even be completely rot free due to the climate.

I prefer mainland europe cars. My rs turbo is imported from Germany.
Altough it was not cheap (4000eur) It has only 3 little spot of rot (battery tray, and 2 little places in floor) and totally unwelded before. Mileage 120.000kilometres.
climate in Germany and Italy is pretty nice for old cars

I really dont know what kind of cars are for sale in U.K but some examples look nice what i have seen for sale in this forum. But i figure you cant get decent one for 1500£.

In Finland it is pretty hard to find good shape RS Turbos any more. So only option basically is importing from Germany or Italy.

1:
Here weather is bad most of the year and in winter roads are salted and chewed with studded tyres so every place is full of dust, dirt and salt
2:
Rs turbos are rare here because Finnish car taxing policy add whopping tax for every car which are imported to Finland new or used. Rs turbos never were popular here and not many was bought when they were new.
