Default 2wd Gearbox Problems

Have a screeching noise coming from my gearbox

It sounds similar to the noise you would expect from a dry bearing.

Only appears to occur in 5th gear (50-70mph) when engine on light load, once you let off it goes away. (and in neutral when free wheeling)

Anybody experienced this?

I have changed gearbox oil and still made no difference.

I might be wrong but in the T5 if 5th goes it's shagged as they can't be fixed.

They aren't expensive though to replace................... I remember paying about £350 installed for a recon one at Harvey's

My understanding is that you can't get to 5th gear and trust me, I know nothing about gearboxes. I had 2 T5 boxes go and it was just as easy to fit a recon one.

As I say, I am no technician and can only go on memory (1 year without a Cossie) but think I can remember Harvey saying that 5th gear is a bitch to fix if you can fix it at all.

As I said, I might be wrong!! Surely somebody on here can be just a teeny bit better qualified to post than me?

Gearbox man will know for definate, but i've never heard of this problem, 5th gear must be fairly easy to replace as there replaced when you go for a big tooth box

I had the exact same thing.
Turned out to be a bearing.

Put a few new ones in and it's as good as new.
