Default Which cam for a s1 turbo(not standard)

High just need some advice on buying a new cam.Engine was rebuilt with new pistons, rebore, high pressure oil pump, new stage three head, dissy, hybrid turbo, etc .It was running a piper T2 cam till it wore one lob off and took a tappet with it after only three thousand miles

Have heard of this before with pipers so am after a different make if poss.

Would like the cam to come in at about 2000 rpm, slightly earlyer than the T2 wich came in at 2500rpm

Thanks for any help Matt

I'm using a Kent CVH 34 in the S1, I'm very pleased with it.

Do know that the initial running in of the cam is critical.

Tech spec is on Kent web site.

Matt

Bayjoo chip, magnex, K&N panel filter, Head's ported, polished and it has slightly larger 1 piece racing valves.

At 12 psi it made 189 bhp on Noble's rollers on the standard IC.

1 piece valves? Care to explain? I've never seen any valves that you can assemble/dissemble...

Good power though for the IC and boost, considering it's nearly naturally aspirated

the valves will be a one piece stainless item with waited stems to aid air flow...
(you will prob have them in your stage 3 head too.)
as regards to the cam.. you would be better getting a custom cam profiled for your engine spec.. otherwise as an off the shelf option a Piper 285T would be the best bet... as above the initial 'running in' of the cam is absolutely critical!

If I run any more boost with the standard IC the temp heads towards the red on track.

Car's concours so no cutting the front panel to take a larger IC for me !

Just about to send the T3 away to have a larger exhaust housing fitted so I can squeeze the last few horses out. Then it's back to Nobles in May when it's taxed again.

S1Man why not go for a charge cooler or a larger capacity Pace/pro alloy intercooler? neither will require any chopping about to fit.

Not too sure if charge cooling would be any good for track days and the larger IC's seem to really struggle in traffic.

Perhaps later when I run out of other improvements to make.

Ok if your going to use it for track days the charge cooler setup may not be the best unless you use a huge resevoir of water...
If you fit the large IC PROPERLY then there will be no problem with cooling.. this is assuming your cooling system is in good order anyway.
99% of the problem with large IC and people saying their car gets hot in traffic come from incorrect fitment!
you other option of course would be water injection.. very cool doesnt require too much work to fit and is excellent at keeping charge temps low... in fact i saw a kit go for £150 on ebay last week!

Yeh I did start to try to find out about water injection a while ago.

Something to look into this year. For me summer time has become time to drive the car and decide what to improve during the winter months.

I'd like to find someone with the Pro-alloy IC as that one looks prommising, I think it goes straight in without and cutting or drilling.
