Default replacing one tyre on its own?

just noticed ive got a huge gash out of the sidewall on one of my front tyres fook know how that happened, looks like its been kerbed or hit a pothole or something.

anyway, the tyre is a <2 month old T1-R (and it's on the front so isn't that worn)

now, i dont really fancy replacing BOTH front tyres, especially as theyre new...

can i get away with just replacing the fooked one and leaving the other side as it is? i know people do it all the time, but dunno if its actually wise or not.

like i said above, the tyres have only done about 1-2k and theyre not very worn (only just worn off the coloured lines!) so should i be ok?

why's that spadge? i woulda thought you'd want the rears to be the same coz theyre the driven wheels?

or am i thinking alone the lines of 4x4 vauxhalls that shit the Xfer boxes out if the tyres have uneven tread?

As Christian says Jim
The fronts are the steered wheels so need to be even

well i cant really give a comparative view, since ive never owned a car with "good" tyres before

i've got the T1-S on the baack and they give GREAT traction in the dry, and almost-great in the wet.

the fronts obviously arent used for accelerating, but under braking the grip better than anything ive experienced before (but then as i say, ive not had good ones before ) even in the wet.

the do seem to wear quite quick tho, the backs are looking rather worn after only about 4 months use but then that might be due to my driving style, i tend to spin the rear wheels whenever possible

ps ive got T1-R on front, T1-S on back just to help aleviate any confusion

Silly question, but what spare have you got ? If that was new and matched the tyre you need to replace you could always use the partially worn front as a spare from now on.

I've got 255/35/r18 tyres aswell, and fook me are they expensive

Got quoted £250 per corner for some decent rubber on my rim

Luckily I have mates rates that are much more reasonable
