looking @ buying a Rs500 or an Escort Cos (to garage up) in the new year had a long chat with the Mrs and she agrees with my way of thinking (LONG term investment and all that) I'm swaying towards the 500 cos theirs less of them now, nothing against the Escort just my thoughts.will have about 15 large in 2 weeks time.the hunt starts NOW moonstone, black, white for the Escort Aursil (spl)green or white. what would be your choice

500 all day long for me, but it would have to be completely standard. For me the both cars are worth what there worth because of what they are so to be worth top money it would have to be as it rolled of the production line.

 

i dont see esccos value increasing in 5+ years time... they still havent hit bttom, let alone started to raise

500s? maybe... but will they still be desirable in the distant future?

i dont personally think that theyre the sort of cars you buy as an "investment"

i mean theyre still worth significantly less now than they were new, even in new condition with no miles... so hardly the sort of thing you'd buy as an investment...

 

money wise you got to go for the RS500 got to be a better LONG term investment if planing an keep it Than the normal Escort cos.

I dont see then as an "Investment" as such, but i do think you can get a really good one and use it for a few years, not putting to much milage on it. Then sell it for what you paid.

As for buying one and waiting for it to go UP in money, i think you would be VERY lucky for that to happen, and if it did, then not by very much at all..............Maybe 1k

 

i dont really think either is a good investment. how many really nice 500s and escos have we seen for sale and they dont sell. you would have to buy an absolute minter with no miles on it and then be extremely lucky to find a buyer who wants to trailor it to shows or something. i dont think 500s sell now because of what you can buy for the same money [ far more capable cars ] and the old t4 8 injector power is old hat so why pay 12k to 15k for a 500 when a proper 3dr is circa 8k and you have 4k to 7k left to make it quick. all imo of course.

 

what about a s1 i would say that would be a better investment

I don't think an Escos would be a wise investment. RS500 would be a good way to keep money, but they are now at the age where you will have to pay top dollar for a mint standard one anyway, so I can't see them going up much more really.

There are better ways to invest 15k put it that way!

 

i dont think either is a very safe place to put your cash in terms of it gaining in value.

Pesonally i couldnt garage a rs500 and resist driving it.

 

IF/WHEN I find one it will be going into STORAGE and NOT driven too much

already investing some more ££££ in a high interest account and believe it or NOT the other 15 will be released to our account due to some VERY clever investing from over the last 20 years U can't take it with u once OUR maker calls (that's our way of thinking anyways)and have SO many policys to cover OUR kids etc if the WORST was to happen

Toe knee the saf is and will always be my daily driver as she has been for the last 8 years and ONLY stands me in @ about 12 large(I have been really lucky m8)

Doo I'm lucky in that aspect as my Mrs's is ok as long as the drum's sorted and bills are paid I can do nearly anything really

 

Tuff one mate...i'd say Escos though...look at how much trouble NeilM had selling his 500 No one really wants essentially a 3dr with a T4 yet having to pay around 5k more The escos is a safer bet really as it *could* be the last ever Ford Cosworth....plus they dont look like an old dinosaur

RS500s could well be worth more in another 10 years.

Its like anything, chance you take, if we knew for sure we`d all be mothballing stuff.

 

RS500 all day long BUT you must know what to look for, to get a genuine RS500.

 

I paid £17k for a concours 22k miles RS500 last year and already valued at 23 grand, if someone wants one of these vehicles and wants the best they will pay the money, there is very few of these cars left now and specially genuine ones, if you spend 15k on a proper one now and drive it for the next 10 years and look after it you will still get your money back. these cars are icons in motorsport known world wide and will always have a value, someone said earlier its a 3dr with a t4, wrong mate, the only people that say things like that are people that cant afford a 500.

 

RS500 for me also, I bought mine a year ago for around 20k I didnt buy as an investiment but as something to enjoy I have had it out to a few shows and it gets a fair bit of interest (actually gets more interest at non ford shows), then it goes home and is tucked up again for the next show. If I ever came to sell it I know I could get my money back, had a couple of offers over the year even had someone come round with cash trying to get it off me.

I agree with the above though, has to be 100% original and very low miles or I reckon it could be a bit more of a challenge to sell or make money on.

 

No, it really is a 3 door with a t4, there is nothing on the car other than the log book that really makes it much better than a 3 door in most peoples eyes, anyone after a car to drive hard is more likely to go for a 3 door, the rs500 are now kind of considered "precious" and whats the point on having a great performing car and then not being able to use it cause you need to maintain the condition to such an extent?

I dont think he was having a go, he was just being honest, 8 injector setup simply isnt needed theses days with decent low impedance injectors available in so many different flow rates, in fact with proper management you could actually argue that 4 injectors is better than 8 anyway, the minor cosmetic differences arent going to be worth a lot to most people, and a decent 200 block is more than strong enough for most peoples needs and readily available so why have the expense of dealing with rs500 blocks when you dont need to?

Personally i could happily afford one but would never buy one cause i would wreck it, cause frankly i drive like an animal.

that's y I have my saff for every day use 330bhp just finishing of a 3dr 400-500bhp for track or road use so a 500 WOULD be just to say I have one m8 oh and the fact I luv me Cossies is a added bonus it WOULD have to be a bog standard one as well most expensive of the 3 but the slowest I'll own

Cant really say wether id go for a 500 or a escos as an 'investment'. I think if i were to invest it certainley wouldnt be in a car!! Dont see what pleasure you wil get looking at a carcooned car and hardly using it cos ya darent as its an'investment'.

Personally i dont think 500's are worth what they go for and will never be worth anymore than what they go for now(in accordance with inflation)

 

Escos will never be investments unless you can find an odd one like a Monte in a rare colour woth zero miles or the very last one made. Even then you might struggle.

500's are more of an investment, but blue or white prefurably and should be std.

There are deffo better ways to invest money IMHO.

having a car valued and getting the money for it in the real world are two different things altogether. as i said earlier probably the only people who would pay 23k for a bog standard car are those who want to trailor it to shows. it certainly would not be anyone who wants to drive a quick car because they would have to spend a considerable amount to make it quick say 7k and what else could you buy for 30k something infinately more capable than a sierra i should think.

 

The RSOC valuations seem to be a little 'off' anyway if you ask me. I've seen numerous 500's for sale 'RSOC valued at 25k' and 'RSOC valued at 20k' etc, but always for sale at 15-17k for the mintiest of minters.

Remember Steve's (Steve and Liam username??) absolutely fantastic RS500 in every way, RSOC valued at something silly like 25k yet it was for sale at 18k and no one bought it when he wanted a white one.( - All if my memory serves me right.)

So it's actual value seems to be the RSOC 'dodgy trying to keep the market up' value minus 5-10k

The only thing their valuations are good for are insurance scams

 

I dont believe people put down their true RSOC valuations when they advertise for sale, I had a long chat with the registrar when my car was valued and he made it clear that no RS500 currently in the club is valued at £25k now.

My 500 has only 5k miles, completely standard even with original tires and totally mint and it isnt valued at £25k, so unless someone has a lower mileage car or something really special I would be surprised if they had a valuation much more than me.

I also find now that the people who buy these cars run in different circles to the RSOC and Passionford, I wouldnt expect to sell my car here or through the RSOC, the high value RS500 buyers now tend to fall into a similar group who run stupid old fashioned cars with wooden wheels thats the sort of people who have made offers on my car. Its actually amazing how many of these people seem to have cash to spare, I got an offer of £24k on my car but wasnt interested, next time I saw the guy he had bought an RS200 instead again it only comes out for a few shows per year.

IMHO Escos is not an 'investement' and could be a moneypit, and I think you will find a standard and concours RS500 very dull and Zzzzzzzzzz, especially when its sitting in storage!

I bought mine at a fairly resonable price, but then spent over £8k on it over the 2yrs I have owned it. In that time I have done about 3k miles I decided that when I bought this car I would write the value of the car off straight away and make sure I bought everything cash including the car itself. Call me stupid, but with things like this you have to be prepared to lose money..... and unless you can afford to lose money then you should'nt buy one in the first place.
