Default £800 to change an engine??

ello,

in the process of fitting a 1.8 xr2 engine into my mk 3.5 fiesta,

everything is there to bolt it, engine, gearbox, loom, ecu....

im no expert but thought this wouldn't be a big job (for someone who knows what there doing)

had 2 quotes now, first was £400... but the geezer didn't have a clue, the second was £800!

is this right?

the 400£ offer is by someone who doesnt even own every size spanner needed....

Hire an engine hoist for a couple of days and do it yourself. Its more satisfying too, once its in and you get it running.

Either that or find some one local who works on cars, no way would i pay 400 quid for an engine removal/fitment.

Good luck.

If you have a hoist like the others said then most of the work can be done in little under a few hours.

The MK3.5 had this engine in it aswell so its not complicated. Put the engine and gearbox together and put it in from the bottom. On the loom all the plugs are different from each other so its easy to know here they go and the water plumbing won't take you long either.

The first quote you got sounds more realistic from any normal garage that isn't BMW or Aston Martin....

We had an XR4i engine swapped over a few years back at a garage called Colemans in Liversedge, Cleckheaton...... we were charged £150 and it took them 4 hours. Keith helped.

Its a simple job that any decent back street garage can do just fine, it doesnt need an expensive speciliast, especially given that NO garage will give any sort of guarentee as he is supplying the engine.

Its all relative, no point paying 800 pound to fit a 200 pound engine!
