Phone up and say you lost your job. It may work? But its likely that all you will be able to do is reduce the tariff so you only pay line rental

I dont think you can unless they have breached the contract in any way. They can drop you to a lower tariff, or you just pay your line rental off in one whack, then its done.

Are you changing providers? Sometimes places like carphone warehouse etc will settle your old contract for you if you take a new one out with them.
