Default Fitting a 2.9 cosworth engine into an escort

I've set myself a challenge which is to fit this engine

From a granada cosworth into a escort cosworth replica.

Would this be at all possible?

I wouldnt waste your time judging anyone elses capabilities if I had it physically I would do that work myself. At the mo I've only seen the engine on ebay hence the question as to whether its been done and or possible.

Size wise would it clear in the bay? would a new tunnel be needed for the box?

u would probably need a floor pan. but it will fit m8, they made and escort cosworth prototype that had the 24v in it.

awesome... well I could fab a floor pan up from the donor granada.

I'm looking to use as much from the granada as poss including all looms and mod cons..

The one I'm looking at has heated seats etc etc

I like the dials too..

I need to go measure up the dash and see if it will fit or how much I'll need to shave off.

I'll probably relocate the battery to the boot which should give room for the air box then theres the fuel tank and pump to consider.

Do you think the escort pump will suffice?

Does anyone know what gearbox the granada uses?

It's a auto box as standard, need to include a VSS as the ECU needs to receive this signal.

Was thinking about 4x4 or RWD

Would everything marry up ok with the escort 4x4 parts?

Dunno about the box not sure whether it would bolt onto a IB5? I have a WRC Specd IB5 box that I could use if so

To be honest I'm not that concerned with it being manual or auto as I've got other cars I can jump in for manual use.

Ideally I want to keep as much as the granada stuff as possible so electronically and mechanically its a granada underneath with a escort shell on top.

If it was RWD wouldnt I have to have a custom prop shaft?

I don't mean to put a downer on things because i like the idea of a 24v escort but if your coming on here to ask questions such as will the fuel pump be ok etc, i doubt that you have the skills to graft a sierra floorpan to an escort shell. As above just buy a tidy xr4i for say £3000 then buy and granada for £500-750 then spend another £500-£1000 fitting the engine yourself using decent parts along the way.. Job done, you now have a properly sorted xr4i that you'll easly be able to sell on in the future.
