Default bleed valve and actuator rod length...

Hi all,

Currently when my car comes on boost it peaks at around 15-16psi but falls to 8-10 psi

It has a bleed valve fitted, is this a good idea? what would be the reason for the bleed valve if i can just adjust the actuator rod length?

Could the boost be dropping off so much due to the valve or could my actuator be fuc*ed?

I think the turbo is up to it, its a 2wd cosworth turbo with 360deg bearings.

Thanks very much

Rob,

Bleed valve is fine, it allows quick easy adjustment of the boost by a tuner! But should not be touched at any other time!!!
Does sound like the actuator is weak mate.

yeah as Karlos says, weak actuator spring make sit spike and drop that much.
get a new actuator, newer the better as it'll give better/smoother boost

a -31 will be fine for around 20psi with a bleed valve/boost contoller a -34 will be good for just over 24psi.
that's the info i got from MSD once over.

I plan to fit an electronic boost controller (so i will be harassing you with questions soon Karlos!) but i would like to have the ability to alter boost setting between 10psi and 18psi.... will the -31 let me have that range?

Thanks again

-31 will be able to do that, they can hold 10psi safely and bleed off another 10psi before the wastegate starts opening too much

-31 cossie actuators are really good. But i found the collins actuators better and found the boost held better.

You want a Apexi AVC-R mate, the daddy of boost controllers!

Most peoples experiences are the opposite, although i've never had a problem with the Collins actuator I had fitted.

profec-B II
apexi AVC-R
gizzmo IBC
these are the three i'm looking at too. As Karlos says the AVC-R does seem to be 'the daddy' however i have read some very good reviews on the gizzmo....

just about to buy a standard garrett -31, for the time being ie before i buy a boost controller etc i would like to replace all the smaller sized hoses ie too and from inlet manifold (the air bypass valve especially) and actuator hoses, any idea on where i can buy lenghths of black silicone hose in smaller sizes to suit the above.?

Cheers!

Rob,
find a hose supplier locally, they should sell silicone varients.
i have a load of blue silicon hoses a local place were going to throw away.

right money spent.... too much money spent god i wish i could only buy one thing at a time on ebay!

Genuine garrett -31 actuator
Group a coil
New rocker cover
Ford gasket (bloody 30 quid with postage)
New ford oil filler cap
Silkolene Pro S oil
Gen ford fuel filter

and i had to physically stop my self from buying a new set of samcos! me thinks the gf is going to be less than happy, especially as i promised a no car weekend lol

Just going to replace the non silicone hoses as i go along... especially the ones to and from the amal and round the back of the inlet manifold.

its bloody terrible. Probably buying a set of samco classics tomorrow depending on reply price lol. Making it look as standard and clean under the bonnet as possible for a difference. Means i can sell the vast quantities of chrome that came with the car!

Think the car still has a very small air leak from some where and its really annoying me trying to find it!
