My handbrake light was on all the time too, i took the bulb out

you could try the connection. if you take off the handbrake surround (if you have one) you can peel the carpet back just enough to see if the clip is on the spade connector. that'd be your first port of call anyway. it seems no matter what i did with mine i couldn't get the light to go out!

second is your ABS light. i have no experience of this as mine is an orion turbo conversion and never had ABS. if it has been removed, take the bulb out, if it hasn't then get it checked!

sorry if take the bulb out is abit cowboy, someone else might be able to help better

Hmmm abs lights doesn't sound good! I don't knw if it's been removed to be honest, brakes don't feel all that good, tends to pull either way under hard braking

The ABS light usually comes on when the belts become slack. I would pull the sensors out of the belt housings and close them by hand If the light goes out you know what needs sorting. Its also not unheard that the sensor itself goes tits up or suffers from dirty conections due to their location under the car.

The handbrake light can also come on when a low brake fluid level is reached (or under hardcore braking) so check the conections and sensor in the fluid res.

As the connection is internal I doubt it will be dirty. Most probably one of your belts has snapped or your microswitch has fallen out of the casing. The belt pushes on the micro-switch so if the belt breaks the circuit is "open" causing your light to come on. Again, if the switch has fallen out, the m/s will be open. Look under the car for a wire dangling down.

If it's fallen out, silicon around the edge once it's back in position. If your belt has snapped then either replace it or remove the system/ bulb should you feel the need. Bear in mind if you remove the bulb your abs will not function correctly and with the light on it will not pass an MOT.

Hmmm ok. Its got new pads and discs at the front "apparently". It doesn't feel like it, the brakes dont feel good even by 1980's standards.

Is there a guide to this? Does it involve bleeding the brakes?

Ok i've done some investigating. Theres no belts on the driveshafts so i guess thats why there ABS light is on. It seems long winded to bypass the system, fabricating pipes etc, is there an easier fix?

Also checked the connector on the handbrake, that is on it seems so not sure why the light is on for that?

Is it the handbrake warning, or low brake fluid warning?

If the ABS has a problem both of the lights come on.
Easy fix is to get belts fitted and ensure the microswitch sensors are both silicon'd in position to stop them coming out.

Have these just come on? Seems strange if they have yet you have no belts fitted. If there were no lights before then how have your belts just disappeared?

In that case they prob snapped and previous owner couldn't be bothered to replace them. Did you not ask why they were permanently on before you bought it - could have used it to get some extra cash off?
They aren't difficult to replace but you will have to disconnect somewhere (can't remember off the top of my head) to slide the belt onto the shaft. Ok job if you have a ramp/ somewhere to do it.

Are there no mods that need to be done if the abs is in the system yet not functioning though? I think i'd rather put belts on but dont want to replace any other parts

You shouldn't need to replace anything bar the broken belts. No mods required.

Fairly certain you don't - but is a long time since mine were done. Just disconnect where you need to, put the belts on, then refit what you've disconnected.

Here's a pic that might help rather than try to explain it in more detail.
