probably easier to get the real thing rather than a deact these days
Might not be an old style revolver but im sure your local friendly mate can get a nice 9mm semi or a simple .38 revolver.

I think the law has been tightened up on deactivated weapons recently, due to back street "gunsmiths" re-activating disabled weapons and making horrific weapons out of cheap cast replica's.

there are different levels of decativation too, i think the law changed in about 95, with the older ones being more valuable as they can be cocked and "dry" fired as they only had the barrel welded up and the firing pin removed iirc, which makes it very simple to reactivate
if you have a genuine interest in weapons join a rifle club where you can learn to use one properly, if you want one for "display" just get a gas powered air pistol

i agree, I would rather go somewhere and fire a gun than have a deactivated one on my wall and wave it around like a cowboy when im pissed. I tagged along with my brother in law to get a rifle certificate thing last week. They didnt have the regular rifle around so we ended up using this. (According to him this is what it was, I know fuck all about them)

the thing about deactivated guns being easy to re-activate is bollocks. Even "old spec" guns were such that to re-activate them properly you would need the technical knowledge and tools such that you could manufacture a gun anyway.
New spec guns were designed to be even harder to convert because it was found that the availability of old spec deacts was such that they were cheap enough to make converting them viable. hence the new spec guns which are just paper wieghts that look like guns!!!
The brocock air cartridge revolvers were banned because they were just too well made
so could handle the pressures of a small handgun cartridge going off. The BACS even looked like a shell casing and worked in a similar way with firing pin etc. there was even a mini version used in a walther PPK replica that worked just like the original and with a few mods and an upping of the pressure could be made to self reload
Also again too well made so easily rechambered for handgun calibre rounds.
Shame really, i had designed a nice AR15 style rifle using BACS. would have been ace!

they are just beautifal pieces of craftsmanship though
what is the uk specification for a real gun to be owned and fired?
i know u need a licence but what does this involve do they come to your premises check where u keep the weapon ertc?

its still not easy to do and how many wannabe gangster Chavs have access to that gear??? And with modern spec deacts theres no point, its easier to build from scratch using easily available plans.Orion 88, handguns are illegal in this country since the panic reaction to dunblane purely to appease the ignorant, biased, screaming mums.
so purely a case of one person spoiling it for the rest of us
every women i know are like why on earth do you want a gun
i think it purely is a man thing
looking around replicas seem ok but it aint the same as having one that once fired
i have no urge to get one and activate it again cos the only time it would get used is at an offical place

no two people, the idiot who did hungerford got the self loading rifles took off us and the nutter at dunblane took off us the handguns.
And has it helped reduce gun crime?? has it fuck, but it pleased the grieving mothers of the victims so the government "appeared" to be doing something good.
I wonder if those same mothers will eventually realise it was all pointless when the police should have been enforceing the gun legislation as it was properly and targetting the illegal guns on the street!!!
