Default ADVICE NEEDED

HELP ME WITH MY PROJECT --- IDEAS NEEDED!!!!

just got myself a shitted out old E reg RS turbo heres the spec....

1988 E reg red RS turbo, standard bodywork, standard looking motor.

HOWEVER :

The engine is STUNNING, it’s a 1.9 bottom end, cossie internals, massive cossie T34 turbo, pace double size intercooler, uprated head, gaskets, leads, plugs, uprated pistons, skimmed, ported and polished and uprated cams. it has full samco hose kits, dump valve, abjustable boost valve with in car adjustment. Uprated water and oil pumps. runs 264bhp and was a feature car a few years ago. got £5k of reciepts. It has an uprated EBC racing clutch and uprated front brakes (vented grooved and drilled disks with green stuff pads, it has been sat for a couple of months so these are now rusty however its only surface), Bailey twin piston dump valve, and im sure its got a lot more engine modifications that ive missed out on as im not a mechanic! its lowered 40mm on shocks and springs on standard RS turbo wheels. It has a racing clip off steering wheel, white dials and white boost gauges and heater controls. It has a front strut brace and a full cobra alarm. It has a full exhaust system. Sticking out the back is a 4 inch rolled out pipe and it sounds amazing! It has a single wiper conversion and 90 spec bumper. It has a sunroof and all electrics.

And now for the bad bits… it needs a gearbox and has no MOT. needs most of the bodywork overhauling. new front wings, doors, bonnet, boot, rear arches, the sills need re-doing and a lot of little things like the accelerator cable has snapped and theres no bonnet catch. it was fully cromed but thats all been taken off with the last owner sold it.

I bought it cheap and was gonna sell it... now however im gonna keep it

needs a new gearbox. wot shud i go for? 1.8d box? RS box? stage 1?

it needs new panels so a full respray... what colour? its red at the mo. want 17s but what type? body modifications? and the interior is fucked so what interior shud i go for? anything unusual or special anyone things wud be a good idea?
engine is good so dont wanna change a thing. 264bhp is fine by me and it runs pretty sweetly!

got about £3k to spend on it but have friends in the right places so can get stuff like paintwork and mechanicals done cheap. Gathering ideas now and making up my budget and what i want 2 do. any ideas, suggestions will b seriously considered! cheers

Best to get as good a gearbox as you can afford, mine had a 3i box when i got it and the lsd in my newer turbo box makes all the difference in the wet.

yea see i will.. its in my nature to be very heavy footed standard box wont last 10 minutes with me i dont reckon... gonna put a standard RS box in and see if it lasts and WHEN it dies im gonna go stage 1. mate just got a stage 1 in his RS converted mk6 5 door escort (such a gorgeous car) cost him just under £800 however he got £200 back for giving them a knackered standard RS gearbox. so thats one decision made... just a few more 2 go.....
