Default ton of oil round spark plug 1

Drawn a blank on fuel pressure problem so looking round engine I noticed late last night a load of oil round the spark plug lead when pulled out (cosworth turbo) and a load of oil on the plug itself....i'm going to do a full compression test, but any ideas before i start pulling rocker cover / head off?

thanks

rocker cover gasket leak on the inner edge of either or both camshaft channels causes oil to run down on to the plugs or plug and lead,

when fitting the new gasket it comes with extra bits on it at the front and support pieces accross the center section. these help to keep the gasket together as it will flop everywhere if you remove them, anyway leave it all intact and fit the gasket into place on the head, you can cut the extra front bit off when the cover is on, the center cross pieces can stay in place.

the most important part is the corners on both sides of the front cam bearing supports, when the gasket is sitting in place put a small blob of sealant in the corners and then fit the half moon seals in place, and finally tighten up the cover evenly making sure the front half moon seals compress evenly and correctly
make sure you dont over tighten the cover as the gasket will spread over the edges and will leak. just a good nip when they all feel tight should do.

sorry about the rant on fitting one of these gaskets but they can be tricky and a pain in the ass if you have to do it twice.

Does the car have an uprated breather system ? If not it could be building up pressure and coming back out of the oil filler cap... This happened to me b4 onced id upgraded from the standard breather system to a Bailey item all was fine no more oil leaks...

Costina,

Not sure if fuel prob sorted or not as wanted to sort the ton of oil which was dousing spark plus 1 which probably doesn't help! Pulled the inlet manifold apart to check for leaks and noticed that map sensor needs earthing which on mine cos its a kit car didn't look great. My understanding is that map sensor can stop fuel to injectors if gets over 0.9bar on standard map sensor...i'm running 3 bar sensor (or should be..how can i check?). I figured as map sensor can hault fuelling and as the earth on mine looked suspect i'd best have a check.

Hoping to escape to the garage before the weekend to fit new rocker gasket and give it a run friday to see

thanks

Mike
