you can go the frst route, then it's only a few little mods to the loom then, if you go megasquirt, then it's even simpler, just chop the wires on the ecu plug and use what you need from the inputs.

u will need and oil return strenthened bottom end lsd brakes exhaust turbo the efi loom is easy u just unplug the old loom and add the new one it all unplugs easy job but its more the hardware things u need you would be better just buying a frs and dropping the engine in ur xr3 personally id go better and 2ltr zetec turbo it
