Default S2 Headgasket Question??

this is something I've been wondering bout for at while, and now when I had to take the head of, I decided to take some pictures and ask the board

the thing is, that on the headgasket, that I've been using, the holes for the water, isent the same shape in the gasket as in the block... and this i STD RST engine

The gasket on the picture is a original ford gasket

This in on the inlet side:

and this is on the outlet side:

anyone got some answers to this... my thought is, could this be why my car easy run hot??? and If u buy a GRP. A gasket, would this have another shaped around the waters holes??

cheers in advance

are you sure thats a ford headgasket ? dosent look like it to me

I have used a ford headgasket before and I'm pretty sure the water holes were different to yours.

Dont bother with a group A or felpro, use a genuine ford headgasket or a halls payen one (they are the same but halls payen are a few quid cheaper ) Ford finis number is 1658584 .

Hope this helps, Duncan

The holes in the gasket are normal, they are designed to control the flow of water throughout the engine/head.

I believe it's to equal the flow around all the cylinders.

whats wrong with group a or felpro's
nothing really mate except the felpro is more suited to the 1.9 I believe because of the bore size. A felpro gasket is normally reffered to as a group a

I think cometic are now doing a headgasket for the escorts, not cheap though !! last time I looked I think they were over Ł100

why dont you just go for a copper head gasket to start with 1 you can get alower compresion ratio an 2 they will not blow out. go to http://www.ferriday.co.uk/ they have a range of gaskets to use thay are about 100 quid and i have seen a cortina with a cosworth lump in using one and it runs 10 second 1/4ers

well back in the day they were all the rage on the pinto but you do have to have good flat gasket surfaces to avoid oil, water, air leaks i think they do o ring kits too for oil ways but that is extra i assume i has to be good if there is a high powered cortina cosworth that does 10?second 1/4s all day long and it hasnt packed up yet it will be on my list during my engine build
