Default upgrading to stage 3

Hi, ive got a 3dr which was standard when i bought it ive put a stainless on it and have just bought an L1 ecu with a stage 3 chip in it a set of 803 greens and a 3 bar map sensor. The turbo is the standard T3 with a standard intercooler aswell. Now, this is my first cosworth so i am just learning at the minute today i put all the parts on wound the actuator in took the car out for a spin and when it was hitting around a bar of boost it was spluttering now i thought it would at least hold around 19 psi {1.3 bar} but i am obviously wrong. can anyone shed a bit of light on this situation as all parts came off the same chap who had them on his 3dr. do i need to take the car to be set up any advice would be really appreciated. cheeRS

Hi there,

A 4x4 Intercooler is a good mod onto your car, i,m having the exact same set=up as you as we speak by Reyland in Birmingham. I have a Level 6 ecu, 803s, Breather, GRP-A headgasket, -31 Actu 3bar. my car will be peaking@ 23psi holding 17ish, i also have the Turbo Technics Stage 2 T3 with the 360 thrust bearing.

If i were you i,d give Martin a call and get him to check your car over.

What fuel Pump is on the car??

Needs to be set up and needs to be running super - the pump should be fine for stg 3 providing their is a decent voltage going to it. a rewiring kit bought from here or ebay takes 30 mins to fit and is a very important mod.

could be the plugs are gone, the best plugs are the cheap 1s,not the expensive iridium 1s.or could be the fuel pump,if its the latter then its not a good idea to thrash it like that,an 044 pump, fitting kit and wiring should come in around Ł170,plugs Ł15.find out from the seller what turbo and housing he had.another thing, your car should be a level 6 ecu,if a level 1 is from a 4x4 cosworth then the top and bottom wires on the throttle position sensor need swapped round iirc.then a good set up to ensure everything is working ok,cheaper than a new engine.good luck.

Your right rossco . Your best off getting it set up on the rollers , you dont want to damage your engine . For the sake of about Ł110 its well worth knowing its ok and not going to melt a piston .

i was also told that an L1 ecu was from a 3dr. the chap i bought it off had t34.55 housing and rs500 intercooler on his 3dr. i dont want stupid amounts of boost just something more than standard. around 280/300 bhp i would be happy with as i have been told they are ok around that as i want reliability and not to have to keep spending on it everytime i drive it. cheeRS

Needs the fuelling setup correctly for starters.
Also you need to know what chip it is to set it up correctly.
Was the chip Specced to his T34/0.55 turbo or a standard T3
These things all matter, personally there is NO WAY i'd be putting a "random stage3" chip in my car i knew nothing about, especially without checking the fuelling and making sure it's right for the spec of the car. Your problems are porbably minor, but why even bother risking it? Ł100 is less than the cost of an engine rebuild.

Hi rog, its an NMS chip and yes it was specced to his T34 and 500 cooler the chap i bought it off was upgrading to an L8. Think i will give PJ motorsport a call and book it in for a set uplike you said Ł100 is a lot cheaper than a rebuild. Just lerarning at the minute its my first cossie. Right then ive just booked it in at PJ motorsport 9.30 tomorrow morning see what they say. cheeRS
