Default s1 no spark

my s1 just stopped whilst driving along and after a quick check it seems to not be getting a spark from the coil

ive tried 2 other coils with no joy so i got out the test light

connected the test light between the negative (green) wire unplugged off the coil and the battery positive terminal and have a constant light, turn the car over and it stays constant and dosen't flash/pulse

i connected the test light between the postive wire unplugged off the coil and the battery negative terminal and the light is constant

also the coil gets quite hot with the ignition left on

any ideas?

it could be the coil lead or rotor arm

How did you get along?

I'm surprised no one has asked about alarms or immobs, as the problem could be with that/those, more than anything else.

Good luck

no problem with the alarm or immobilzer as the fuel pump primes and the car turns over

i done a continuity test from each of the dizzy plugs wires to the corrasponding wires on the ecu and one of them as no continuity so im in the process of unwrapping the whole engine loom working my way along the wire with no continuity to find out where it has broke
