Revs to 2500 then cuts out?

Revs to 2500 then cuts out?
My 91 4x4 cossie starts fine and idles fine but when you rev it to just over 2k revs the rev needle drops it backfires and engine cuts out?
Just changed the ect sensor but still the same!
