on the central locking problem: check the wiring where it goes from the door to the shell. if i remember right its a single brown wire that tells the other doors what to do and if this is earthing on the chassis or crossing onto another wire it will mess things up.

on the knocking noise: (sounds stupid i know but worth a try) is the centre nut on the shafts at the correct tension? its just that you say it only knocks once which makes me think this.

hope this helps.

hello mate
i had a similar prob with my central locking, i turned out to be the wiring loom in the door its self, i replaced the the loom with one for a brakers yard and its been ok since.
i have got poly bushes on my car and it makes slight knocking noises sometime on lock i have put it down to the bushes as it didn't do it befor i fitted them.
hope this helps

Hi mate, re the revs surging, worse when hot. Had this happen just about a week ago on my 4b, was dirty sensor connections of the 5th injector, the cold start injector. First off I took the car to my mechanic, who disconnected the 5th injector, said it wasn't really needed, would make it run a little rough when cold maybe, but after this the car would sometimes stall and refuse to start (was flooding), called the RAC and got lucky, the RAC man had an old RS2000 with a Cosworth block in it so he knew his stuff, he figured that the 5th injector sensor plug just needed a clean and he could reconnect it with no problem. And all was well without me spending anything

Had a similar problem c/locking wise myself turned out to be the relay playin up also if you've got an aftermarket alarm thats playin up that could be it,but i'd have my money on the c/locking motor itself on whichever side is playing up being faulty very common fault on most fords god bless henry!!

Have you checked and cleaned the Engine Idle Speed Control Valve? This has packed in on mine, i must renew it soon...DOH! The car has No cold start, sits at 700-800rpm when cold then jacks up to 3000 when warmed! Easy to replace, just 2 screws even i can do that LOL

some of you are confusing the Idle Speed Control Valve with a 5th injector. can you see a fuel connection to it? no. it's just a valve that opens to allow more air to bypass the 'closed' throttle plate when needed.

hiya guys and girls the problem`s have been sorted i.e the surging was a knacked idle speed control valve, the central locking was buggered wireing loom in the door in the end after changing everything else and the knock on the front turn out to be the anti roll bar lower arm bush was`nt tight enough only 1 pound of torque sounds stupid i know but it worked on mine thanx again for all the suggestion thay did help in tracking down the problems in the end
