hey guys, i've recently bought a saph 4x4 with a fist sized hole in the block...
now being a total cossie virgin, (i've been restoring and modifying sierra's for years), i need your expertise and advice, i will be doing the rebuild myself and trying to cut a few (of the more expensive) corners....
do i need to go source a cossie 200 block (i've been told that ford transits are a good place to look, but what year/engine do i look for??) or can i build the engine back up using a 205 'pinto' block?? (of which i have plenty) will they be able to take the power/cossie crank??
i'd like to source parts from other vehicles that have related parts and find cheaper routes to get the engine rebuilt, bought 2nd hand, (perhaps you got something i'll need) ebay, piston heads and on line scrappy's etc. rather than just drop it off at an engine rebuilders/tuning shop along with the BIG bag of cash they require, i'm a hands on kinda dude and a heavy goods fitter by trade...
any help (free alpine mountain holiday if your a mechanic with cosworth knowledge) or advice, insider tips would be gratefully accepted and appreciated...

hello again welshy!
205 block will be fine mate, ive seen 500hp through em.
as said on other thread, matt lewis for rebuild stuff, such as pistons, bearings, shells etc http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/Matt-L...rsport?afsrc=1
some stuff is still available through ford
if you want to use a decent RS breakers, that use Paul at north yorks, the bloke is a top fella - his name on here is "NORTH YORKS RS SPARES" - he stocks loads of spares if you dont want to buy new

You won't find a 200 block in a transit, these are mostly 202, which are just a different deck height 205, the 200 is MUCH stronger but if std power is all you want, a 205 is fine, just make sure it is bored with a deck plate on, as they distort like crazy when bored otherwise.
I'd certainly be happy to use a 205 at 450bhp.
As said Matt Lewis for bits.

205 block is late Pinto block, an Injection Sierra will have one. The Cosworth were 'Selected' 205 blocks for there bore tolerences. Thats all the difference is. 200 block is 4x4 Cosworth YBG as well as Escos and as mentioned is stronger.

you have 2 on the block
1 under the plenum where the fire trap goes in & is then piped to the plenum
1 that is a tapered thread with a nut in it at the bottom on the other side under the exhaust near the engine mount
you can also drill a hole in the cam cover & fit an adaptor
there are many threads on here about breathers bud as far as i can tell there are a few difrent ways of doing it

205 block not ideal for 4x4 due to the stresses of the 4x4 front drive throught the sump and the block. Ideally you'll need a replacement 200 block. Where is the hole? if its in the cylinder bore you could potentially have the cylinder linered which could work out cheaper than a new block.

thanks for the info, do you think a 205 block (even with 4x4) would be able to handle 'standard' bhp??? the only mod (engine wise) will be a stainless steel pipe (cos it's already got it!!!), i live in the french alps and won't be able to put down a lot of power for a long time on these mountain roads. it's all point and squirt here!!!
150 outta a pinto... now that must have cost ya loads!!!
my white one is gonna stay standard, my black one (no sunroof) is gonna have a 2.3 scorpio 16v conversion with a full cosworth makeover (brakes, susp, diff, interior) and body kit... the 4x4 was gonna be scrap and used on the black one, but now i'm gonna have a play and see how i get on...
