OK got my water temp gauge hooked up today (think god for easy outs!
)
and my god she runs cold!
its always ran cold on the std gauge, but i just assumed the gauge/sender was inaccurate...
now its got a new sender and proper gauge and i see the true story...
went out for a hard blast and the MAX temp i saw was 50degrees... normal was 40degrees!
now i knew my engine ran cool (you can leave the car running for HOURS and not have the fans cut in!) but that takes the p*ss...
now 1st assumption is maybe it doesnt havea thermostat fitted, so i'll see if i can get a new one and get the stat housing off to check etc.
now if that doesn't do the trick, does anyone have any ideas?
i assume having it run that cool is not a god idea

that is too cold. you're probably running in the warm up area of the map so using too much fuel?
first suspect is obviously thermostat. other than that, do you run a viscious fan? if so, is it working correctly, or always running full speed? they normally run slow when knackered though. is it all piped up in the right order, being a bodged conversion?

As above, ideally you need to have a good look at the coolant system on a Granny 24v, then compare to yours, as above, may not be a nice flow, do all pipes feel warm when running , all the same pressure?

well i'm running twin leccy fans, which have only ever come on about 3 times EVER to my knowledge... lol car's never got hot enuf for them to come on! only time they ever come on is when its really hot n cars left idling for AGES
as far as the pipework's concerned, it all appears to be plumbed in ok...
foreign, yes it uses a lot of fuel (even now its its running on closed loop!)
my radiator is significantly larger than a standard 24v granny radiator, but i wouldnt have thought that'd matter as long as the thermostat was working ok...

the standard gauge was causing the aftermarket one to misread
disconnected std gauge now the other one reads properly...had it upto temp nicely

changei'd already changed the stat by this point anyway... but then its no bigdeal, as i'd ben meaning to change the stat anyway as it's a service item
