hi guys, im new to the ford scene and iv got an escort xr3i mk3 and iv got a fiesta 1800rs sat around, will the 1800 fit strait into the xr3i? and if so is the wiring the same. cheers. tom

 

No and No mate.

Lots of differences would take an eternity to list them..........you need to contact a good tuner/project company

 

They are quite different engines and as lurch says it is not a straight swap, but it is possible. The modifications required to the RS1800 engine are not that extensive, but the wiring issue is a bit more tricky. Have a Google for 'escort zetec conversion' and I'm sure you'll come up with a good list of what needs doing.

 

done it a few times,if ya handy with a spanner and a soldering iron can be done over a weekend!half ya battle is done as urs is a injection!

 

I love it how the OP gets wrote off straight away and told to go see a tuner when we have no idea what he is capable of.

Personally I haven't done a ZETEC transplant...yet, however that guide carl has posted should see you right it looks pretty good.

Pretty much anything can be done with enough time, patience and a deep enough wallet I mean look at Christain and Beccy's project thread some of the stuff going on there is amazing and he has already admitted he is in over his head yet still having a go.

Nasa put man on the moon so anything is possible, or did they....

 

I always hated the tuning magazines for that kind of answer like Lurch 1977 gave.
I dont expect a magazine to go into great detail on a Q & A page regarding a conversion., To me they always seemed to say 'go speak to a tuner' or 'the cost involved would be too great, go buy another car with it already fitted'.
these are the same magazines who have got cars in them that cost the owner Ł1000's to get to that stage. Why did they not save all that money and buy a car with 500bhp as standard.

 

im pretty handy with a spanner, good with skylines just dnt know much about ford engine swaps. is there any good mods to get power from the xr3i other than the usual exaust, filter, etc. cheers
