Default like for like, agreed value, market value etc for highly modified cars.

Hi

Ive been looking at different packages for insuring my puma and im struggling to get the cover I want!!

Ideally i want agreed value in case of a total loss claim.

There doesnt seem to be many companys anymore that do this for modified cars!!

Like for like is all very well on repairs but if they are using "market value" to determine the maximum cost of repairs then like for like is pretty pointless!!!

The way i see it, market value on a 99 1.7 puma in good nick is about £1500 on a good day!!

A light rear end could trash bumper, damage rear quarter, rear fogs etc and even with no structural damage a new F2 rear bumper, grp repair to quarter panel, respray and blending etc would easily write it off based on market value.

So in essence, fully comp is useless to me as even a minor bump would write my car off!!!!

So are there any companys that can give me a fair Agreed value policy considering the fact that my car is NOT the same as a standard 1.7 in any way or form???

Im seriously considering binning fully comp for third party as there seems little point!!!

Also my car has never been a 1.7 puma and is technically a amatuer built car with DVLA issued VIN etc so would i be better off going to kit car insurance companys and insuring it as a one off, which it is. It isnt a 1.7 puma, nor has it ever been one!!!!

refusing to pay an extra grand isnt being tight Agreed value isnt worth a 70% hike in premium

someone must know!! theres a hell of a lot of cossies on here that market value is feck all as a sierra saph but with all the mods done are worth a lot more.
