hi has anyone used the autoglym high definition wax on they're cars? whats ur opinions of the wax? is it easy to use and is the finish top notch im planing on giving my car a good clean polish and wax next week and was wonderig how good the ag wax is

 

It's very nice to work with, gives you great feedback and good gloss. Haven't seen/tested the durability yet, but people says it holds up nicly

 

There are far, far, far better waxes available for similar money or less

 

to be fair i work as a valeter and our company uses this product on customers cars, it does do a fairly good job but overall i always use other stuff on my car, Nielsens comes out a whole lot better and so does zymol, i use it at work but like mike c says theres a whole lot better stuff out there for around the same if not slightly cheaper price.

good for budget wax, but i would use a different one if you can afford to stretch a bit more

 

You can pay a fair bit less I think (not sure of the price of HD, but going by what it said in a mag I read last month it was around Ł30) for a better wax.

Like Poorboy's Natty's paste wax. OK, so in terms of durability it's not upto much, but gives a lovely wet-looking finish for less than Ł15

Or for a similar price you've got Collinite 476s, which is about the most durable wax you can buy. Finish ain't bad either. Not exactly a wow-factor finish maybe, but you could always go over that with the Natty's and you can do that for less than Ł30! Or use the Collinite and splash out on a bottle of Zaino Z-8 Spray Sealant/QD, best on the market for Ł18 for use after wax!

Ł30 would near enough get you a nice Dodo Juice wax too!

Without having to step it up to the likes of Zymol...

P.S. Im not looking at concours i just want the car to look shiny

 

the colour of my car is pepper red and its 1997 and is kept outside and is a daily driver so idealy i would like it to last a reasonable amount of time

I'll give another shout for Natty's waxes over the AG HD. Gives a superb finish imho and responds very well to layering (which also significantly boosts it's durablilty as this isn't a strong point of Natty's). Can also be used in direct sunlight on warm panels.

A couple of shots of Natty's 'Red' version wax on my 2 (as I always say with these things though, the wax is only accounting for 5-10% of the overall finish - the rest is down to the preparation work i.e the polishing stages):-

I bought Dodo Hard Candy to give it a try. Its an amazing wax. Great shine! And the smell you seriously need to try hard not to eat it

 

I quite like the HD, been using it recently and it seems to work and last well! Previously i used chemical guys 5050 which was easier to apply.

 

for a white car what would be the best polish to give a wow finish ????

 

im gonna use the meguiars clay kit. autoglym polish meguiars car shampoo and conditioner use a meguiars wash mitt and finish off with nattys red wax... i think

 

Get the Sonus mitt. Its a better quality than the megs one, and is double sided rather than just the one side for meguiars

The XR2 was machine polished by DA using Poorboys SSR2 on a Menzerna 'orange' polishing pad (just in a few areas that needed it).

And then all over with Menzerna PO85RD Final Finish on a 'Serious Performance' brand 'Red' finishing pad.

Then a coat of Poorboys 'Black Hole' glaze and then a few layers of the Natty's 'Red' wax.

This car is permanantly garaged and so had hardly any swirls to start with hence only requiring a finishing polish all over and a medium cut (the SSR2) just in a few localised areas.

The Puma which lives outside 24/7 was machined with the SSR2 all over but I've yet to give it a spring 'freshen up' with a finishing polish. I might use a sample of Menzerna's new 203S that a member on Detailing World kindly sent me today, as it's got enough cut to remedy a few light swirls and scratches that I've picked up over the winter, yet still refines down well enough to not require following with a seperate finishing polish.

No glaze this time, just Poorboys 'polish with carnauba' (blue version) and then topped with the Natty's Red again.


Yes, FIESTA CHRIS H, that's the stuff. Although the standard white or blue versions are equally as good imo. it's just that I prefer the red one as you can get this in a wider jar that allows you to keep your foam applicator pad inside.

do you get 1 of these included or will i have to get 1 this is the first time i have polished and waxed the car . also can i use it in the heat or has it got to be done in the shade

 

You can use this wax in the hot direct sunlight when the panels are warm/hot (in fact all the Poorboys products can be used in the sun). It's always easier working in the shade, but if you have to work outside and it's hot, you can.

You don't get an applicator with the wax, no, but I use these ones from Tim @ cleanyourcar as they fit perfectly into the wide mouth jars of the Natty's 'Red' (but not in the regular sized pots or the white or blue versions).

I got given it and I was impressed at first. Didn't seem to stay on that long though, water isn't beading as nicely as some meguirs I've used in the past.
I'll try it again in a proper bufty sesion lol

 

Ive heard that poor boys polish is spot on.

 

i have used the hd wax and ithink its spot on

 

I used the HD wax the other day.I felt it was hard work putting it on,as the wax is quite hard in the tub,and found it difficult to get it onto the pad.However,it polished off very easily with little dust.The shine was also excellent,I keep looking out the window at the car!! Regards,Micky

 

Just bought some Glenn al let ya know what its like. Just bought some clearkote vanilla moose wax aswell

 

i bought the new meguiars today and have to say.................................WOW its brillaint

 

Poorboys polish>Clearkote Glaze>Poorboys EX sealant>Dodo Juice Rainforest Rub/Light fantastic.

Gives it the wet look and so easy to use.

I have a pot of the hd wax tried it on my blk l200 warrior it has a nice deep shine to it but it is the same as my megs spray on wax but the durabilty test i cant quote on it has not been on the car long .......neil
