hi all, is there any difference in say a mk4 xr3i head and a mk4 rs turbo head? i know mk3' s are different port shapes ect. but in need of a new one and dont see the point in paying extra for a head jus because it came of a turbo! cheers

 

No real difference apart from the exhaust valves being sodium filled

 

ok, you lost me at sodium? does this affect or do anything?

 

The exhaust valves are sodium filled to help them cope with the higher temps generated by the turbocharged engine

 

learn something new everyday! could you still use a 3i head then or would it just crack and make all kinds of mess...

 

You will be fine with the XR3i head providing you change the valves, would be better to buy some new stainless ones as the original ones are getting old now (unless you can get new std ones cheap) etc

Only the S1 heads that had sodium filled exhaust valves and they just dissipate heat easier not important at all mate.
Full set of standard valves are about £45 off ebay!
