Mate, I own a 92 spec ebony metalic. i have done mega research in to black cossies, Im led to believe there were around 55 2wds in matt black and not metalic. This was a factory option at a high cost. There are 250 Black 4wd's prodomantly 90/91 cars, again matt finish, with the exception of 40 1992/93 cars which were metalic. however ebony never appeared on the options list back then because they were special production cars for the 92 spec motor. The only colours listed for 92 spec cars were, smokestone blue, nuv red, white and smokestone silver, however ebony was produced along with the ULTRA rare radient red..

Sorry to hijack the thread

Kingycos

Is your dad able to scotch or verify the rumours that a few of the 500s that came out of Tickford were converted to 4x4 in 1987

Also does he have any info on a Genk built, Belgian registered RHD RS500 4x4 used as an evaluation vehicle for a proposed one off run of 50 to celebrate the end of Sierra Production in 1992 (in the same spirit as the Brooklands Capri) using a bunch of the new 3dr shells reproduced around that time, that was canned due to the recession, and fears that it would over shadow the intro of the escos.

Be very interested to hear about any of the above

MATT black?! I guess you are refering to the non metalic colours

My 92 facelift (late dash) 4x4 is SCHWARTZ. (non metalic black)

So was that an optional colour or what?

NOSRst, The info is about as acurate as it can be, given the motors age. All info is tracked through VIN's and take considerable time (weeks). The number of 2wd drive black sapph's is 55 mate. So its a rare monster, you just need to try and find one now-a-days to buy, you just cant! Ive got all the past 2 years "RS ralley news" issued by the RSOC and there has been about 4 black sapph's for sale in that time of which only 1 is a 2wd. But saying that, the RSOC say that ford never made a black saph cossie, but they did.

Phil, Schwartz black is listed under an optional colour for a sierra ( not cosworth though), the late 92 spec motors were called ebony black. Is yours defo not metalic? It was a special production car in 1992/93 along with the radient red 4wd's, but all were metallic. I own one and its defo metallic. If yours is not metallic, forward me the VIN and my old man can find out what the actual colour is... Just had a quick thought, if you go for touch up paint at halfords or somewhere like that, they will use the colour number stamped on the VIN, halfords dont call it ebony, they give it there own name, ebony paint is not available and needs to be mixed on site!

Kingycos, Im pretty sure its a straight colour - if it is metalic then its a VERY fine flake.

I ought to know this - Ive spent countless hours polishing it.

At work - we've got a paint mixing scheme on order so hopefully I'll have all the answers when it turns up.

Thanks for the info

I have a 1992 Ford Sierra Cosworth 4x4 Final Edition (Italy), but it was produced in Oct./Nov. 1991. This does not match the years you mention? Are your sure there were only 40 ebony 92/93 motors or are you only ref. to RHD? Mine is a LHD.

Btw. I have a touch up paint from Ford - it says EBONY on the stamp.

Thomas, the info is 99.9% correct mate, as far as I am aware it is all cars produced, left or right hand drive, i will check with my old man when he gets back from his hols! Is your motor a green top unleaded? because its based on specs, which would put yours into 92 spec, although produced in 1991!

Hi there

Interesting stuff! I have a Saff similar to the one tkrath have, a Final Edition in Ebony black. But mine was produced in september 1992, so I guess it was one of the last cars of the line??
Kingycos, can you find out, how many Final Editions were made? I know they were only made for the italian market, but how many was produced?
If you say, that only 40 ebony black cars was made, it can't be many (if all final editions were ebony black that is??).
I'm just very curious to know, how rare my car is.
Thanks for all info and help you provide on this topic!

cheers
Tommy

And in case you wonder why I call it a '93 car here below, it's because my car wasn't registrered until marts 1993, so in the papers, it's a '93 car.

Thanks for the info. As you see a few Danish Cossie friends joined this topic as I've postet a link on the Danish Cosworth forum.

My motor is a green top unleaded and it says EBONY on the plate with the color id under the bonnet. Mine is a Final Edition and - like Tommy - I would like to know how many Final Edition Ford made if the serie has been registred. Would really appreciate if you could give me some info re. this as the Italien Ford dealers I've contacted could not help me.

The Final Edition plate is this one:
http://cossie.tkrath.dk/grafik/ford....tandard004.jpg

Btw. we have six Danish ebony Ford Sierra Cosworth 4x4 registered on our Danish Cosworth board.

Thanks

i havn't changed it much, stage 1 chip, decatted it (with a 3" mongoose exhaust)

Mine is a "Final Edition" which means it comes with all the extras you could order directly from Ford. This includes:
- leather
- aircon
- electric sunroof
- electric windows front/back
- electric mirrors
- electric adjustable headlights
- heated windscreen
- heated windscreen washer
- security system with remote control

The radio was removed when I got it, so i don't if there were any cd player in it. Mine was also totally standard when I got but I've fitted a few extras:
- complete set of SAMCO hoses
- T35 turbo, DV, stage 3, with 803's and 044 fuel pump etc., Mongoose
- Escos wheels
- Powerflex/Bilstein susp.
- quickshift etc.

My Final Edition also have the same extras, except the electric adjustable headlights.
It has two alarmsystems (original!), one system that sounds the cars horn and another with a sirene. I can close the windows with the remote also. And the carkey has a button for the alarm. I believe this is part of the Final Edition extras.

Filthy Rich, All the VINs are stores on a data base at ford Uk, this is where the info is tracked from... When Cosworths where produced at Ghenk, Belguim all the info from the VIN plate was put into this data base and stored, All VINs carry a colour number on them, hence being able to trace a VIN and a colour becomes some what easier, however all numbers stored on the data based are for all cars from that factory so this is where it becomes difficult to split RHD from LHD cars....
My Dad has access to this data base, hence some rare info can be traced this way!

Phil, going back a bit, but just had conformation that the only production black for a 92 spec 4x4 was defo ebony, and it is metallic....

Rich, Its 55 2wd motors in black mate. It is the rarest 2wd colour. The were over 300 in total, but the majority were early 4wd drive motors (1990/91). All were a matt finish and it changed to a metallic finish in 1992...

Would have thought that was the rarest colour?

I just went and actually checked. The name on the body colour chassis plate is ZWART.
I assume that translates to ebony.
It doesn't really look like a metalic finish though. There is a very fine speckle but its barely noticable.
