Default Triton shower going hot/cold/hot/cold

Morning folks,

One of my tenants is complaining that the previously fine Triton electric shower (t80i?) is changing temperature from very cold to very hot at random points when it's in use.
Does anyone have any ideas why this would happen and what i can do to sort it? Don't really want to replace the unit if i can avoid it!

cheers

is it a cold feed one? or has it got a hot feed and a cold feed? it could quite easily be water pressure if it has 2 feeds.

sure there is a filter that can be checked as it might not be getting the correct pressure of water mate.

thanks for the replies. It's a cold feed only, (good job too as the hot water pressure in the flat is crap anyway!)
I've not heard any mention from them about the cold water pressure decreasing so i'm guessing it's related to the shower itself.
anyone got any more specific ideas of what to cehck and how i do it?
pretty sure i can find an exploded diagram on the net somewhere as I did this before when the brain bung thing on the bottom was leaking.

make sure the head or anything after the outlet isnt blocked (with limescale maybe)

this can trip the internal temperarure switch to prevent scalding hence going hot then cold all the time.

I used to have problems like this in my old house and it was due to water pressure, someone only had to turn a tap on in the next street and we would be burned alive.

Yeah that used to happen on the shower at my mum and dads. It worked fine unless someone else in the house flushed the bog or turned a tap on or the washing machine was running!

hiya mate, we had the same thing with our Triton shower, same symptoms, was all fine until one day it started switching between cold and red hot. It is a cold water, gravity fed system, it turned out to be a thermostat switch in the unit. Replaced that and it has been fine ever since! Apparently not an uncommon fault according to the Triton helpline.

I'd go with rsnissan on this one.

Also if the heater element is really scaled up it'll trip the unit to turn the heater off (if they are trying to run it hot) and it'll come out freezing until it calms down again.

Take the head off and the cover for the unit (with electric off!!) and run the shower fully cold, give the heater part a bang with your hand and see if it's full of scale (will literally start flowing out the hose)

You can remove the heater part and clean the scale out (all be self explanatory when you see it with the cover off) but you will need to disconnect the water into it (isolate stop cock obviously) and disconnect the wiring to get the guts of the shower out.

Never expected to be directed to Passionford when I googled the problem I had with my Triton shower.

Does anyone know how to take off the cover after removing the only screw located at the bottom?
