Default 3 Door ABS

Im just wondering where to start, last year when the car was in the road it had an intermitant fault with the ABS, when i started the car the light went off and came on when moving, so i understand that this is a fault a sensor. Sometimes it was fine for a month then would do it on and off.

Now the car is back on the road after 5 months of just sitting there. When i start the car the light doesnt go out. What does this mean? Is it still a sensor fault or is there something else wrong now?

Thanks

Something else wrong now, I would check all sensor first, especially for rusty sensor rings.

Would rusty sensor rings cause the problem when moving or would that also cause the light to stay on before i move off also?

first port of call as they are easy to get at are all the connections around the servo and bottle, there are quite a few including under the servo itself. Pop them off and clean the connections, use a electrical spray rather than wd40 and also give them a wiggle once reconnected.

If that does not sort the problem then start on the sensors in the hubs and the connector from them to the main loom. Start on the fronts first as they get the grubbiest.

I doubt its the abs ecu or assiciated fuses, but if all else fails these are above the pedals.

Good luck/ I had a similar problem and it was a bad connection between the front sensor and where it connects to the main loom, dried out and gungy.

the 3 door abs is slithgly different to the normal abs found on later models

bu the basics are the same, if the light goes out when you start it and then comes on again after you move, it's almost certainly a sensor on the way out

if the orange lights don't go out then it's osemthing else

Thanks i will try that, once cleaned with electrical spray did you use any electrical lubricant after as you said they were all dried out?

I think one or more sensors is def playing up as it was bringing light on only when moving before.

But not its always on it must be something else also.

unplug the sensor, get the wheel off the ground
spin the wheel
check resistance fluctuations

I think people use a graphite based lubricant.

The sensors are the same as those fitted to any sierra or granada with abs so its always worth a trip to a breakers for a few spares, they only tend to be a fiver each, but they are £50 plus from Ford
