What engine are you changing?
You would either have to lift the engine up and over the slam panel, or have the engine on the floor and lift the car over the engine! Either way it involves mucho heavy work!
Can you not just borrow 1?

As above, far easier using a crane, i even found you one for 85 quid

Probably a good investment if its an RS Turbo your working on.

its easy enough to drop them out the bottom, just lower the engine on a jack onto the floor then jack the car up a bit higher so u can slide the engine out, then slide the new one in then lower the car then raise the new engine into place on the jack, ive done it this way countless times on my rs turbos and dose'nt take long

did the same with a mk4 Fiesta, would prob be easier with a crane though if you had access to one.

I find it much easier to drop it straight out the bottom using a jack and peice of wood.

That is fiestas though.

it wouldnt have to be exactly an engine crane, if ou were stuck you could use a chain block and tackle, a forklift, a site loader or like i have used in the past - a tractor and loader and a Cat 312b 360deg tracks machine to take an engine out of my sierra!
really should have taken a pic of that

I once had a neighbour who swore by a couple of old seatbelts and 4 strong lads

Not sure if any of them had back problems afterwards LOL

would make the job a whole load easier if you had an engine crane/hoist

you can hire them from the likes of lord tool hire and the other machinery hire companies, last time i hired one it was 25 quid per day or 60 per week so not a hige cost, and they deliver and collect it

Me and silky16v off here did an engine swap with an XE vauxhall engine by just lifting it out the top of the bay by hand (we chucked a rope round it, put a 2*4 through the rope and put one end each on our shoulders), fuck doing it again though, perfect way to knacker your back!
