US tvs will not work in the UK Rudey.

they operate differently - not sure of exact technical specs and reasons but I know for a fact they WILL NOT work here.

you would need a power transformer to run it, as they use 110V 60 Hz not 240V 50 Hz.

and you wouldn't get a picture or sound as they take an NTSC input, not the PAL that you use in UK. most dvd players can output switchable NTSC or PAL, but not satelite or cable.

i'm sure that you can also get NTSC to PAL converters though, but you'd have a right spaghetti mess of cables everywhere

when it comes to the whole voltage question, US is 110 so you will need a step down transformer to run anything lectrical easy to get hold of and i think they use 2 pin plugs over there so it wouldnt be earthed not a major prob just one to think about, cant really argue with ran cos i aint got a fookin clue

yeah its just the ntsc and the 110v problem, well the 110v aint a issue as my old waterbed was imported from the states and i got a 110v trasformer for it, worked proper, no issues for years

as for the ntsc issue, sure its just a baord in the tv ya gotta change

tell me how ya get on and i may have to buy one too as i still got me transformer from me waterbed ( still got the water bed to, just used the frame as shelves )

rudey - i think the uk companies here transmit their signals in PAL whereas the US is NTSC. As such things like your normal channels, sky, cable etc will not work on these tvs from the states.

But if you hook up a dvd player that plays ntsc then you will be able to watch films via that but its not worth the hassle as you will not be able to watch regular tv or sky.

sorry ran but he has a very very valid point, same with dealers, they wouldnt be a issue if people didnt wanna by the stuff

tbh i dont have a issue buying stuff cheeper from shops as hey can afford it and are actually robbing trade off smaller shop and halfords for example are not cheepper but have much much larger profit margins complared to smaller shops

as for buys nicked stuff from peoples homes, i would never same as nicked car stuff, never do that either

if ya rob a tv of a family, you can fook them up finacially for year as they may only have 80 quid a month spare and now have to use a portion of that to replace there tv and to that they now have to take up finance and ,make a fat cat company board members richer due to a misfortune thats no fault of there own

sorry but really really fooker me off

but as for hot card scams, shop lifting for dixons ext, got no problems with that !

sorry my veiw may offend but its true, dotn deffend a company thats actually not doing any of you any favours

supermarkets are just as bad, just not worth buying a tin of baked beans for 20p when there 40p

the Current isn't the problem. It's the whole signal thing. NTSC -PAL.
Don't know if they sell any converters on your side though?

Tonyk, what Rudy would need is the opposite though, Pal to NTSC. (If he was to buy a Yank TV)
