Default L8ECU post deleted - PF mandarins at work?

yesterday evening Simon posted a question about the legality of the process whereby tuners copy original ford spec chips and mod them to suit a tuned engine.

he has been considering producing a peice of kit that would allow us all to do exactly this.

he claims to have received various threats should he go ahead and his missing post was questioning why it should be ok for 'established tuners' to copy chips and advertise on here, yet not acceptable for him to discuss the product.

the post has now gone.

why is this ?

The post has not gone at all.
Take a look in the correct room for this type of policy related post. The Policy room.

So what is a "Pf mandarin?"

I saw a couple locked, but never actually got to see a definitive answer on if chip piracy is officially allowed, and only software piracy that isnt or not.

Maybe I wasnt reading in the right place though as at least one of the ones locked said that it had been answered, maybe someone could furnish me with a link to the relevant post?

I keep getting told to read it, but am unsure which of the many posts are being referred to as "it" in the first place, can you give everyone a link and then no one will need to ask again

No mate, I clearly havent, as I still havent seen this reply you are both chatting about. Hence me asking twice in this thread already for a link to it.

So perhaps one of you could furnish me and others (as clearly quite a few people have missed it to) with a link to it?

I see what Chip's on about, must be too much trouble to help him (and rest of us) and much easier to answer same questions over and over in an unhelpful manner.

Found it, so here it is for anyone else interested:

Should Bosch, Siemens, Weber etc or indeed the software owner, (likely the vehicle OE not the manufacturer) choose to challenge this in a court of law, and win, they could then prove copyright infringement and stop us doing what we do, but until such a case happens, (And rumours have circulated for a long time that its about to) the owner of the vehicle can ask us to do whatever we like and we are altering his equipment with his consent, which of course adds the legal question was the owner at fault too? Its a minefield that the manufacturer's have chosen to avoid thus far
So the offiical line is that until one of the manufacturers points out that what people are doing is illegal, it wont be classed as such, and so can continue on here.

Thanks for the clarification then Stu

So what is a "Pf mandarin?"
well it was posted in GD and correctly moved to the policy room. however, given the topic, it may be that it should have hovered in GD for longer to allow more folk to see it and comment. even though it was moved to the correct room, given the contentious nature of the subject, i wondered if this was to appease tuners?

my reason for assumming it had been deleted is that after failing to find it in GD i then searched for all posts by l8 ecu and it did not show up in the result list (still doesn't). thus it appeared to have been deleted, adding to the mystery surrounding the subject.

PT mandarin - well 'pf' = passionford and 'mandarin' was a status of great seneority or nobility from chinese history.

Me too. lol
Glad everyone is happy again, and i will look into the search issue, maybe the new policies forum is parsed by the search system. Will find out as it needs to be because it contains many useful FAQ.

Topic Closed.
