We have a 54 plate one (phase 1) and it has started to run like a bag of bolts.
On start up it sounds like an old MK2 diesel transit and clatters like hell. It also sounds like its off of a cylinder for a few seconds.
Then when you drive it's almost like kangaroo petrol if trying to go slow in traffic etc.
Id also say that if it were an old petrol car it would be like its pinking when its hot
got a really weird diesel clatter if you load it up in say 3rd then it sounds normal once the revs pick up a bit.
It's got full service history and had a service just a couple of months ago.
We have had it since it was a year old and this is the 1st time it's let us down.
Any of you Fordie mechanics have any ideas?
Got me stummped,
Cheers,

Can easly be programed in with a snap-on scanner if you know someone with one.....the number will be on the new injector.....Write it down before you put leakoff pipe on though...lol
Yip as above ive had loads were ive just reprogramed all 4 injectors and they have been mint but had a few were it made no differance and they have needed a new injector..

A guy at work has just had a similar problem
I told him to take it to our local diesel injector specialist.
There is a recirculating unit at the back of the car on the exaust, which send gases to back to the engine to tell it how to run in certain conditions.
He had it replaced, was about Ł120 plus fitting. problem solved.

reading the above, my st is 06 euro 4 type egr, its clean , had it off and wasn't bad at all, inlet also clean, toying with buying a blocking plate, 2 types, one for mine has a hole in the centre, is there a foolproof way of ensuring the EML stays off, is it only a workaround or does the ECU need reprogrammed, also i have heard that the 06 late build st diesel have a modded map from ford, is it worthwhile having this done by a ford garage or would i be better having it remapped by an expert, not looking for mega grunt, just power from dot like my old pd golf estate..

It's well worth getting it remapped. A good map will make the ST fly.
It's not worth blanking the EGR on a Euro 4 unless you want to keep resetting the EML. The hole needs to be so big (to not trigger the EML) that it's pointless doing it. Just whip the EGR off every few thousand miles and give it, and the inlet manifold, a good clean.
