Default XR2 Mk2 Insurance Quotes..

Hi all, just started driving my Mk2 XR2 and was wondering what everyone else has been quoted?

I'm 20 years old, currently insured with Elephant.co.uk, have 2 years no claims and paying £710 for a 10 month policy with bonus accelerator.

Car is completely standard, garaged, 5,000 annual milage, with my mum and dad as named drivers and a valuation of £1500 on my vehicle.

I have declared one accident which wasn't my fault and no no-claims bonus lost but this pushed the price up by £50 or so..

All feedback welcome! Might even help us get a cracking deal next year..

Many thanks!

Okay, through Elephant, your car is worth £300 regardless of what you quoted the value as @ inception. They go on market value from Glass' Guide.

10 month policy with "accelerator" is worthless as well as most other companies will not recognise the bonus. I have seen this a few times with other people.

Your best bet would have been to use a specialist company that puts the car onto "agreed value". The XR2 is actually classed as a classic car now, so insurance is dirt cheap.

An example: my Escort cabriolet is a 1986 model and insured for £4.5k FC. I pay £141 for me and the other half. It will cost £20 next year to add the Sierra 2000e as that will be 20 years old.

So, 2 car for £161 with a combined agreed value of £7k.

If you are within your 14 days grace period, look around quickly and see if you can get on a classic policy

I used to be with Heritage with my '89 XR2 on an agreed value, limited mileage, fully comp policy. Very good company, might be worth getting them to give you a quote.
