Can this be fitted to my RST? Anyone know how to wire it up?

 

They all come with directions but generally speaking you will have a switched live in an earth and then the 3 wires for the lambda sensor. Will fit any car with a lambda, and if you don't have a lambda just drill a hole in the exhaust, weld a big nut on and away you go

 

Have had one fitted (bottom gauge), think they run off a lambda...

Shit! has my car got a lambda sensor? Don't think I've noticed! infact I'm quite sure it hasn't !!!

 

lol no mate it most certainly hasnt, and it's not any old lambda sensor you need it's a wide band lambda sensor. A decent one will cost £200 upwards mate plus your gauge!

 

dont necessarily need a wide band sensor, will be far more accurate with 1, but if its just a basic air/fuel gauge being fitted, then a basic lambda will do. most newer cars will only run the narrowband type as standard anyways

i think VAG bosch lambda's are the 1s to go for, pick them up on ebay for about 40quid new, but if u just want a reall boggo sensor, they like a tenner on ebay, plenty of them

 

narrowband lambda sensors with gauges are hopeless and i think just a waste of time, just buy yourself a wideband..

If this is an MFI RST, I wouldn't bother!!

You'll just shock yourself with how poor the AFR's are!! A bit like my first ACT gauge, I was quite happy with my Chargecooler set-up until I got the gauge and saw the temps really didn't cut it.

 

im not denying they hardly the height of accuracy, but some people just fancy a gauge that basically looks pretty and serves a purpose, however small

wideband set up is a bit extreme for you average run of the mill rst really, plus costs massively more

 

RSandy- sorry but narrow band gauges do absolutely nothing other than flash LED's like a xmas tree ... All they do is tell you if you're leaner or richer than lambda 1.0, which is completely useless at anything other than cruise!

 

well i did kind of say 'basically looks pretty and serves a purpose, however small'. was a polite way of pointing out it just looks flashy, without makin the thread starter feel like a gimp

maybe its what he wants, who am i, or anybody else, to tell him he should or he shouldnt. id guess its fair to assume hes only on about a basic 1 like this, cos if he was after a full wideband set up, chances are he would have a fair knowledge of such things as if his car has a lambda as standard

 

The thread starter just asked about a 'air:fuel ratio gauge'.. didn't specify narrow or wide-band

 

well as an educated guess, id say if hes not fluent in the ins n outs of lambda sensors n the system on his own car, its fairly safe to say hes not going to be after a full wideband posh set up lol

or i could be way off the mark......but im gna guess hes looking at a gauge that costs about 30quid on ebay
