Default mig welder help

i am having another go at the five link upgrade to my Mk1 escort.went to the shed to start again after the christmas break but couldnt get the (newish) mig to run.its outputing a feeble spark like if you dragged a light earth cable across the positive on a battery.
i checked the following with no sucess, anyother areas before i drop it back to halfrauds.no wanting to do this as they will only send away and ill be without for weeks at least.

earth clamp attached fine
metal bared,ground it back
plus/neg connections at mach tight
shroud/tip removed and refitted
wire running through fine
different power settings checked
cover removed and nothing obvious
continuity checked on gun/cable feed wire

any ideas

cheers

I suppose you could do the obvious checks like running a resistance check or voltage check with the multimeter make sure there is enough power getting to the unit. not much help but maybe a cause!

State to Halfords you need it for MOT work on your current car or you will demand a full refund

Or get someone else to buy the same pay cash and put your busted one in the box and tell them I've been told its not powerfull enough for what i need and get a refund job done

Check your power supply, especially if using a extension ?, I would not worry about voltage, as it is, just see how it picks up when asked to.
