MK 1 mondeo.... tonight matthew I'm going to be an early 90's BTCC car.
Currently have a SHED of a MK1, planning to recreate the good old days of Hoy, Cleland, Tarquini et all by carrying out numerous stupid and ill thought out modifications, this will continue till I kill the car or find a 850 T5 estate I like,

theres already a guy (birmingham area i think) who has done the mk1 mondeo touring car replica thing. its a 2.0 zetec on throttle bodies and is done in the ICS livery. heres an old pic of it (before it had the TB's)

theres also someone in scotland doing one of the later mk1 valvoline replica's.
i've got a set of the genuine mk1 mondeo (works) 18 x 8J white dymag's on one of my mondies, converted to group A fitment. a very nice find indeed!
wouldnt you be better off starting off with a petrol mk1, or are you keeping it diesel? its a PITA converting a diesel mondeo to petrol. there is stuff you can do to the 1.8TD engine to make it much quicker, on my old one i put a big saab front intercooler on it and some other bits. you can also put a bigger turbo on with an adaptor plate, but its always gonna be a very heavy cast iron 8valve single cam 'not very revvy' lump...

that looks shit.nothing like a replica.blue mondeo with some wank stickers.
a replica would be lowered to the ground some mad wheels tucked up in the arches and big spliters on the front bumper.

mine is gonna look quite tourer-esque when i get the coilovers on, i've already got the genuine touring car rims and the back arches rolled so its gonna be decked right out (although mine is a black car and i dont want stickers on it)
already got the coilovers here ready to go. i was also gonna get a half-cage.
i nearly had a genuine carbon mk1 BTCC front splitter last year but the guy stopped replying to texts and phone calls, after we'd agreed on the deal
p.s. the rapidfit livery was on the mk2 mondeo, not the mk1. i have seen a very poor mk1 touring replica on ebay last year, done in the mk2 rapidfit colour theme, with lexus rears, wood and yellow dash panels and all sorts of terrible mods on it

Just a few shots of the suspension preliminary set up, still need to balance heights between front to back, sump and exhaust/manifold alterations next, to give some ground clearance before it is dropped further.

How it was on previous set up

..............and how it started
I come past your house all the time and have seen it in various stages. you have a red one to dont you? or used to.
i like it, you done see anything else round like it anyway.

Yep I do, there are certain restrictions on what I can actually do to the car as I use it for sprints and hillclimbs so have to abide by the MSA regs for the class in which I compete. If I am out tinkering give us a toot.
There you go:-

I'm always dubious of refering to these type of cars as "replicas" that is something they will rarely be in the true sense of the word. If they were it would be cheaper to buy the real thing than try to reproduce one, I always tend to refer to mine as a "lookalike"
