if you are talking mt75, there were 2 different boxes that shared the same internals but different casings for the rwd versions

the mtX75 fwd boxes also share the same internals as the rwd boxes but again, the casins are different

so it could be a case of finding the box that fits and then sorting it afterwards

Not sure what you mean by that, I'm on about gearboxes in general, say like a ERST box is rod selected, ST170 6 speed boxes are cable... Could you use the ST170 linkage on a IB5 or something else?

when converting an escort turbo to use a 6 sp st170 box i just took the gearstick and cables from the focus as well and fitted the whole lot, that part was a doddle to do
had to make mounts and convert to hydraulic clutch as well

the getrag ST170 box is a totally different design to iB5. Id imagine if you could get a cable linkage with the right gear change pattern then i guess it would be bodging to make it fit.

Be interesting to see what they changed on the MTX75 to go from rod to cable. at least then you could see whats changed.

No.

It tends to just act on one selctor rod. but twisting that rod, anti or clockwise then moving it in and out.

A cable will tend to act on 2 selctor pivots. One cable doing foward and backwards and the other doing left and right.

no you need to swap the entire box as the cable lonkage goes in at the top and the rod is the bottom of the casing.

you could swap the whole box over and then swap the linkage if thats what you wanted to do or swap internals beween the casings as the internals are the same (if an internal part is knackered!)
