Default where to by insurance writeoffs?

after hearing the prices of damaged cars sold by insurance companies and seeing the price of engines for my mk3 mondeo ive decided i might try and get hold of a written off mk3 with the right engine, take the running gear and flog on the rest on ebay or the like.

just insure the best place to look for getting these motors?

i live near bristol by the way, so if anyone knows anywhere locally i should be going thatd be brill!

What is wrong with your engine? Would it not be easier and far less hassle to buy a new mondeo to replace your one, and break the fucked one for spares?

thanks for the info guys, ill get on it in the week and see what the score is.

reason i think buying a writeoff and transfering the good stuff over is a 1/2 decent undamaged one if going to set me back 1500 quid or more. whereas im guessing looking at prices ive seen that a low mileage writeoff will be well below a grand from the right place. meaning once ive swapped the engine box and any other bits, then stripped and sold any bits on ebay or the like, i should only be a few hundered quid down, but with a low mileage engine and box in a car i know is already otherwise straight and sound.

might seem backward but makes sense to me lol!
