Talking London Traffic Warden FAIL!!!

This is what happened to a guys 4x4 on one of the Landrover forums i use.

He'd parked illegally in Camden, and the dopey lorry driver tried to lift his landy.

EPIC FAIL

where do you stand with things like this? could they just say "well we woud have had to lift it if it was parked legally" or do they have to fork out?

happens ALOT belive it or not, one time was a brand new XKR that some rich bird owned,,, the tosser CRUSHED the roof on the lorry by pulling the wrong lever an panicing, she had the MD of the parking groups APCOA BMW 5 series whilst her car was being reshelled

also a merc had a blowout and slipped off the rings,, car was held up by 3 on a angle and was swung literally on the back of the truck before it went over

there was also a porsche dropped back on the floor and the shock went though the top mounts too

this was the stuff i was told about when training the new recruits, there must be even more too

I dont think it was the weight.

MY 110 weighs 2.3 ton and that has a hiab and a big winch bumper on.

So im guessing the 90 can only weigh 1.5-1.75 ton.

The issue is landrovers do not have a "normal" handbrake yhere a cable goes to the rear brakes, as these would get ripped off when off road.

As the landys are permant 4x4, the handbrake is actually built into a drum at the center of the chassis where the front and rear propshafts join the transfer box.

So although all 4 wheels are braked with the hand brake, rather than be locked solid, the "play" in the propshaft uj's and differentials. means the with the handbrake on the wheels can rotate back and forth about 1/5 of a turn.

hence why when the landy was lifted the wheels turned and it tipped.

If you watch a landrover park up, you will see normally when the driver gets out and removes their foot from the brake you will see the car roll fowards a few inches. ive scared a few people before, as they think you havnt put the hand brake on when u jump out.

I will find out, tho looking at the picture the only thing touching the ground is the tow bar, so possibly no structural damage.

just obviously the oil and diesel, which could have damaged the interior.

Does that mean that if you don't put the handbrake on they can't lift the car? I don't use mine... just leave it in gear.

I dont think (as the picture suggestes) they are educated enought to know then some 4x4's ie landrovers have this sort of handbrake system.

You could leave yours in gear with out the hand brake, but id hate to think what would havven if it got shunted or lifted = bent valve.

its a landrover, it dont have a sub frame!
Underneath all that painted rivetetd alluminumn body is this

the adjustable hitch attaches to the back plate on the chassis rear crossmember

You could lift a landrover buy its towbar with out any damage to the chassis. Have seen it done buy the army at displays.

Mine has has some right abuse over the years, and also its car bumper height....keeps the tail gaters at bay!!

:

mate you DO understand hpw the hiab lifts a car dont you ?

the wheels cant turn due to the car being LIFTED by them, cant rotate a wheel when they tryes are locked with friction, front wheels also are able to free wheel,,,, its OBVIOUS that its been lifted and the balance aint been set right,,, the arm moves alot to centre the weight due to cars not all having 50/50 weight, its gone too and and lost it to physics, its nothing to do with a hand brake being applied and wheels turning

watch one of em in action and see just how much adjustment there is with em
