Default tdci still causing me trouble

hello all, after fitting a new turbo to my focus tdci , it doesent seem to want to run right, at first i thought it wasent boosting but now i think the trouble could be somewere else, the car is very flat and the turbo actuater is moving up and down , ive just been to a friend who is a diesel specialist and he took it out, firstly when he put his foot down it seemed to pink? then clear abit as he held it in 3rd, he thought it could be a faulty injector or maybe the mass senser? he put some additive in the tank and told me to take it for a blast, but doesent seem any better, i dont like the pinking noise but my mate says it could be a injector pushing to much diesel in , the thing is it starts and ticks perfect and drives ok just flat with a pinking sound if you realy hammer it, im well pissed off,

Pinking?

Do you mean a sort of rattle on high load?

I only ask because diesel can't pink (pre-ignition) but can knock....

could be one of 2 things mate

1 egr valve is sticking open at the wrong time , ie when your on the power instead of off and engine is trying to run on already burnt exhaust gasses

2 tdci pumps have an advance control within the pump which are prone to stick due lack of luricant in modern diesel

both the above would give you the "pinking" sound you describe and lack of power

blank off the egr valve and give it a go , if its the same your looking at the pump

if the egr has any electrical connections (euro-something or other) and you block it off it will throw up the managment light.

Matey get yourself over to MEG mondeo enthusiast group and speak to them, the forum can be a little slow but they've had these problems before and I'm sure can help you.

Eh?

TDCi are common rail - the pump does nothing other than the pressure for the rail.....

update on this is its going to a diesel specialist on wednesday, a friend of mine he says he will put it on his computer to look for fault codes, when he took it for a spin he thought it could be a injector issue, as when the turbo went i was doing 60 mph then shaft snapped this would of also thrown loads of oil into the chambers so could of got a dodgy injector, hes put me some additive in the diesel to clean all the injectors then told me to go and blast it, but dident make any differance, the thing is it runs perfect just flat as a pancake feels like n/a diesel

ok ive had the injectors recalabrated and its made now differance, the egr valve seems to be working ok, one thing that has come up is that 2 of the injectors arnt showing the correct voltage, one is to much and one is to low, the other 2 are correct, so it looks like 2 new injectors at a cost of 140 quid each there not cheap!! the inlet manifold is also comming off to be cleaned as these get full of black tar.. i don think i would buy another ford tdci.. never had so much trouble give me my ford rs back or my evo

This is mordern cars for you....

and hence why dealers charge so much - they need the tools and the skills (training) to understand and fix this stuff.

if the egr is faulty then it will light up the dash as a failure somewhere

there was a mod to the valve when our vans went in, but i'm not sure if it was a recall job or not

we also had a problem with something ni the pump splitting under load but being fine when it was on part throttle, but i'm not sure what it was so perhaps it might be something similar
