Don't be tempted to use washing up liquid or anything, it'll knacker the filter element. This is what you need

They will NEVER llok as red and new as that again after a few miles, even with the K&N cleaner, which is what I use, and a lot of other stuff wil damage the filter media, which is surgical grade cotton, they do come reddish in colour but nowhere like a new one, also allow time to dry naturally as quick drying damages them also, always wash from clean side to dirty side, the cleaner is well worth the money, I have had my last bottle for around 5 years, and have done around 15 with this.

mine have always come out perfect after, look just like new. Yeah all you need to do is brush off any loose crap, spray the cleaning spray on, leave it for a while then rinse from the inside out until all the dirt is out of it, repeating as necessary. Leave it to air dry then re-oil it!

oiling was mroe difficult thatn cleaning it i found

i just put the cleaner through the centre first to wash out the crap, then collected the run off into a deep baking tray and then just rolled the filter around to get rid of the rest of the crap

left it to dry over night then re-oiled it with the spray in the kit

it's about £20 worth of kit when i bought it, but it made it look like new even if i didn't feel any benifits to doing the cleaning
